Morse Hunting Case Stalls
 

Latest on the Montana hunting case is that judges are deciding whether or not to dismiss the charges based upon accusations of government misconduct. Seems some of the agents have a "lack of memory" when it comes to some details of the investigation. While I am not advocating a position on this one way or the other the article is a bit interesting.

Not that I care but why weren't these agents told or made to put everything they saw in writing so that they would not "forget" it. It should be part of a any investigative procedure.

Maybe it became "convenient" to forget, or "lucrative"?? Who knows the whole story? All I know is that money talks. Just sayin'.

Obviously Mark Morse believes he's above the law, him and his wife and daughter. Just ask the IRS.

I wonder if they really believe they are above the law.

Here's my take on that: They have money so of course they have attorneys, accountants, managers, advisors, etc. to help them make sound decisions about that money and how they live their lives. And what risks are acceptable.

So the accountant and attorney think of a plan to save millions in taxes that may be borderline but worth the risk - the attorney says "if" this ever was questioned by the IRS I think we would stand a good chance of winning. Now the Morse family will find out if that attorney and accountant are up to the task of winning the case.

Now the hunting thing. Do you think they bought all that land in Montana and one day loaded up the jeep with some guns and headed out on a shooting spree? Remember the key here - MONEY. They hired someone to show them where to hunt, how to hunt, etc. (Same guys that are supposed to haul in the kill, I doubt Mark Morse and his family are dragging around dead elk.) If it were me I would be taking the advice of the guides.

Don't get me wrong - the Morse family is ultimately responsible for their actions. I just don't envision Mark Morse filling out his 1040 or going down to the county office for a hunting license anymore than I would expect Ted Turner to pick up his own car registration or Donald Trump to go to H and R Block. When you have money someone does that for you.

Just my opinions.

Simple explanation of Morse's actions re hunting on HIS land -- it is common for owners to hunt their land with no license in Montana, Wyoming, etc. Not legal, but common. If you're caught, you pay the fine and go on your way. For some reason, someone probably decided to make an example of the Morses and go for more than just a fine or maybe Morse decided to fight the whole thing. The investigators probably didn't do the proper paperwork because they thought it would be another case of paid fines making the whole thing go away.

I still think Rainey's actions were far more heinous than anything Mark Morse was accused of doing yet his fine and possible sentence is much lighter. Really wish someone could explain that one to me.
