Experience with Gel or electric fireplaces??

Hi. I was just wondering if anyone has a fireplace in their home and if so what kind? We would like one but are unsure of what to get. We like coziness of a fireplace and we'd also like it to give off a little heat too for those chilly evenings.

We have an electric fireplace from Lowe's. It also has heat when desired. We use it every evening--even when it is hot outside because we enjoy the look of the flame. Friends have visited and were so pleased with ours that they also got one. You can't go wrong.

We have an electric fireplace at our summer home in Norcal - it gets next to no use there (another thing to haul here next fall).

electric fireplace

We just moved into a patio villa and needed something to put the tv on so we bought a dimplex fireplace with shelf for components. It puts out just enough heat on those chilly mornings we had a week ago and you can turn on the fireplace just for ambiance without turning on the heating element. We love it. Bought it at Whites. It also has some much needed storage on the turn out sides.

We have a Dimplex electric fireplace that is built into our entertainment center in the living room. The unit has two temp settings and two speed settings for the fan. It can raise the temp in the room maybe three or so degrees. Looks great!

I don't know the name of the fireplace but it is electric and a larger one. I purchased it from Home Depot around 10 years ago. I was working there part time after I first retired and at Christmas time they had a huge sale, so with the sale price and the employee discount, I got it for a song. All the people who visit want to get one just like it. It gives plenty of heat in the cool mornings (haven't had the furnace on yet) and also in the evenings around 7 to 9 pm. Nice and cozy and my little dog just loves it too. Good luck, you won't be sorry if you get one of those.

When we built our house in 2006. We put in a gas fireplace. It is great for cool days and evenings. Plus it is fun to decorate at Christmas time. If you are building a new home, I recommend a built in a real gas fireplace instead of an electric one you guy at a store.

Applepie, we won't have gas where we are building in Sanibel. Would love gas but from what I hear if we have gas put in, the lines would be in the attic (not so great in thunderstorms) or we would have to bury a tank in the ground. Neither appeals to us. We are use to gas in the North Country. Will have to get use to electric everything!

If you use the gel there is a black film that you will see sometime later on things like walls, floor, just like burning a candle but much worse
