From the Daily Sun this morning 1/12/2012

Golf Club thefts in The Villages.

Villages residents reported two incidents of golf club theft Monday afternoon, according to Sumter County Sheriff's Office officials.

According to Lt. Bobby Caruthers, spokesman for the agency, the first incident was reported at Lake Sumter Landing, where the owner of two sets of golf clubs parked at a restaurant aroung noon. Caruthers said the man went to eat and when he returned at approximately 1:15 his clubs had been stolen by an unidentified subject.

He said one set, which was made by Callaway brand woods and a Ping driver in a black and gray bag, was valued at $2,700. The second set, made up of Cobra brand clubs in a blue and gray bag was valued at approximately $1,700. Caruthers said.

In the second incident, a man told deputies two sets of clubs were stolen at abut 2 p.m. from the parking lot at Southern Trace Shopping Center when he was inside a store for about 20 minutes. Caruthers said.

In that case, Caruthers said the first set of clubs, valued at about $1,200 included a set of Wilson brand clubs and a Callaway driver in a bag with the Cincinnati Bengals logo on it. The second set included Taylormade clubs valued at $1,300. Caruthers said.

Caruther warned resident not to leave valuables unattended on their golf carts and to store items like golf clubs at home after a round of golf.

Investigation into the cases is continuing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sumter County Sheriff's Office at 793.0222 or the Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-8477.

Huh? I don't read the Sun very often but believed that the Sun didn't post negative information like this as indicated by a few posters on this forum! Oh well, I guess I need to learn to take what I read with a grain of salt more often! :ohdear:

It is interesting to read of clubs stolen from golf carts in parking lots but no mention in the Sun of a golf cart (including clubs) stolen from a resident's garage.

That is because it will be posted in a few days. I am guessing that the sheriff's office release things after the reports are filed. These thefts happened Monday and this is Thursday. It will be posted..in a few days. It comes from the sheriff's office info.

I'm still waiting to read about the golf cart accident that happened Sat afternoon which you said would be in the paper soon. Did I miss it?

Maybe they didn't put it in the paper. After all..it is a paper that is just to sell houses. (This was meant as sarcasm, I very much like our Daily Sun)

I often wonder why they have columns from other developments nearby to tell what Stonecrest is doing etc. And also have pictures and stories sometimes about interesting things in other developments. I sure can't figure out those Republican Morses. It doesn't look like they are afraid of the competition.

I have to think when people have a beef about the Sun that the politics gets under their skin. It is an alright little rag for a town of our size if you ask me. I am satisfied.

Those advertisements are what help to keep the cost down to approximately $.15 per copy.

Soooo.......you're saying this is a history paper and not really a newspaper.

I disagree. The Daily Sun is NOT just to sell houses. The Daily Sun has definitely improved since I first started getting it in 2001. Section A covers all of the world, state and local news. Sometimes the coverage is better than the Orlando Sentinel and The Ocala Star Banner. Other times not as detailed as the two mentioned papers. B covers the sports and even includes the late games that the Sentinel does not carry. C and D are for the Villages news. Covering the other communities around here helps sell papers. You do not have to read about the other communities - or you can to see what they are doing.

Compared to the local paper from where I am from, theDaily Sun is a very well writen and has a lot of information.

In a lot of areas when something happens on a Saturday or a Sunday it does not make the paper. Apparently the reporters take the weekend off.

As a disclaimer, I do not and have never worked for the Daily Sun.

I just like the paper.

You KNOW I like The Daily Sun. I was just using a little negative psychology. I get so tired of the harping on that paper. I grew up with The Columbus Dispatch and then grew older with The Cincinnati Enquirer. I am used to a paper that had a Republican Editorial section. I think people from the coasts aren't used to that.

they posted these as a token, they didn't mention how many sets of clubs have been stolen, you can forget 2 but its harder to overlook 20!

The Daily Sun does grab stories from associated press to 'fill out' their 2 to 3 pages of condensed news. The staff only writes about the villages events. Of course they include articles from some surrounding retirement communities, they want you to see how much better you have it here with all the facilities. I'm not saying that the paper stinks, you just have to realize what it is. I won't even get into the columns all written by extremely biased republican columnists.

The Daily Fun is also delivered to Water Oaks and other communities outside TV. We also like that they have NY Newsday crossword puzzle.

I have to wonder how many folks on this site have lived in a small town!! I have lived in both a metro area and a small town and have to say that The Sun does a great job! The metro papers don't have the "folksy" pieces AND that's all the small town ones do! The small town we moved here from had a weekly paper and it was pathetic, even with the "local news"!!! The Sun seems to me, to have some of everything....and of course it's advertising in a sense, this great community we live in! I wonder, if it's such a "bad place" why people live here and the place continues to grow!!
