In honor of 'Gracie' at the race track

Gracie,

Kathy and I went all-out today (Sunday) and placed a huge bet at the Turfway Race Track in Northern Kentucky.

We bet $$$ -- I think it was $6 -- on 2 horses in an 8-horse, 4th race of the day:

Horse # 4, Fallen from Grace, and
Horse # 6, Grace's Miracle.

Unfortunately, a miracle didn't happen, and both of our entries fell from grace. The winning horses were #7, #1, and #5.

Thus, as of today I am giving up my Diet Cokes for 21 days and will substitute water as my beverage of choice during this period of time. We have got to recover our huge bet tab for the day, so we can still make our February trip to The Villages, (aka, Paradise).

You will probably see me leaner in early February, when we arrive TV (Feb. 5-12). I am allowing Kathy to continue with her Diet Cokes. No sense that we both punish ourselves for a ... bad day at the track. Next time we will simply choose 'Lucky Lucy'...as our bet in Race 4 of the day..

Gene

ps: We still love 'ya!

Gracie and gambling....not a good mix.

Next time....save your money and go out for a good dinner. :)

Just think, if Gracie had come through for you, you could have made the TV trip by chauffeur-driven limo, sippin' on Diet Coke all the way. Oh well.

Good to know Turfway is still there. Thanks for post. Always like to see the Cincy post.

$6 on Fallen from Grace, and Grace's Miracle? You didn't say where they placed. I mean, did they stop to smell the roses or maybe they were cheering on the winners. I mean, if you think about it. That certainly wouldn't have been a good bet since Gracie is a cheerleader and not a player. :0000000000luvmyhors

Do we need to do a chip in to get you to The Villages? Maybe if everyone chipped in oh... 2 cents, we could get your $6 back in no time.

Well... you just got my 2 cents... :)

Oh... and don't EVER bet on Angie's Angel, I heard it came in DEAD LAST the last race she ran. :ohdear:

Horses with the name of Grace in them.

Probably lost as they took a detour to TV. :jester:

Good point! I checked the stats: Grace's Miracle finished 5th, and Fallen from Grace finished 7th. They didn't want to win in Kentucky; they DID want to scamper back to TV!

Hmmm!....I think I remember Gracie saying

She doesn't bet!....Maybe that is why!...giggle

Angie,

Kathy and I "bet cheap" at the tracks -- anywhere from $2 to $6 a race. We don't exactly get rich <g>. Just lunch and 4-5 races on a Saturday or Sunday. Simply entertainment; no different than golf or anything else. We "team bet," which we enjoy! Had we bet $20 on the Gracie Race, we would have lost $20. But since we bet only $6, that's all we lost. Everything is relative!

Gene

p.s. If a 'Gracie entry' competes in the KY Derby, we may lift our bet to $25. :)

Although it doesn't involve the name "Gracie", you tweaked my memory of a nice filly that ran at River Downs in Cinncinati about 20 years ago and she was awesome. Was very dominate in her races and was difficult to beat. Her name was "Ta Dah". I still remember to this day the track announcer calling the races she ran in and it simply went like this:
"As they approach the finish line-----------------Ta Dah". With an extra special emphasis on the "Ta Dah"!!! And that was the way the race call went in most of her races.

It sounds like you bet in moderation and it is a nice way to spend a day. :)

Kathy likes gray horses

It's a great way to spend about 3 hours. We put our heads together to "team bet"... 'high 5' when we win...and (slightly) frown when we lose. All in the fun of it. Kathy is good at reading workout times, so I count on her for that. We consider the trainer's record, jockey record, horse record (this year and last), track stats, etc. Kathy is partial to gray horses, but a horse's color or name (...except Grace) doesn't drive my choices. About a month ago I just had to bet on "Kathy My Love," but that horse came in last place in her race. As I said, so much for names <g>.

Again...all in the fun of it! Betting together adds to the enjoyment (instead of trying to beat each other, we just want to win as a couple).

I personally use the eenie meenie minnie moe method of picking horses but your way sounds a whole lot more scientific. :jester:

Seriously, I think I may want to do this someday as it sounds like fun. :)
