The Friendliest Hometown?

Yes! We closed on our new house at 2:30pm on Thursday the 5th on Jan. By the next afternoon barely 24 hours later we had meet our neighbors two houses in each direction. By Monday we had meet many more. Did we go in search of them? No. We just sat on our front porch drinking coffee. They would see us out there and stop for a chat. Monday evening we were invited to a get together they hold once a week and we meet more people than we can remember.

So a warning to those who are considering making TV your home. If you don't like meeting your neighbors or friendly people who seem to be sincerely interested in how you are doing, you may want to look elsewhere. I think I'll stay.

I realize that these are first impressions so I'll do more research and get back to you in 30 or 40 years.

Jim :)

Reminds me of our experience when we bought a lake cottage in Minnesota. We made friends with all the people along our beach, we had get-togethers, played cards, went fishing and golfing together, and generally enjoyed one another. Now we have lived in 14 different places during our 44 year marriage, and never had anywhere near that many friendships among our neighbors. I came to the conclusion that it was because at the lake, we were all on "vacation", most of us being weekenders, and we were basically free of the day to day concerns of our lives. Being on "vacation" we were all happy, and in a congenial, party mood, and had the time and the inclination to socialize. I see TV in the same light, most everyone is retired and thus basically on "vacation". They have the time and the inclination to socialize - otherwise they would not have been likely to choose The Villages as thier retirement destination. The fact is we made more friends on the block where we rented for a month last year, than in most neighborhoods we have lived in over the years. Another reason to choose the Villages Lifestyle.

We have had the same experience in TV and we're not even frogs yet. One of the (many) reasons it's hard to leave when we must is because we so miss our TV friends.

It's nice to know that you don't have to leave your house to make friends. :)

I am so glad this is working well for you.

Welcome to Paradise, Jim! We love it here, too!

The same

Same happened to us when we closed. Could not get in the home for three days but sitting in the driveway we were welcomed by the neighborhood.

Sent us home with a smile. Of course three weeks of winter slop can take that away.

Only neighbor I did not appreciate was the gopher mole that moved in:ohdear:

Welcome:
