Did anyone see Rick Santorum at the Legion today?
 

i wish everyone who is interested in voting in the republican primary could have heard and seen Rick Santorum today at the American Legion...he is so obviously the best candidate, yet as i watch the debate on nbc it seems like a battle between mitt and newt, mitt and newt! just wondering if anyone who posts on this forum might have been there to see him and what you thought...

What is it that makes him the best candidate?

it is my humble opinion that he is the best candidate because he has always been a conservative, never flip flopped, never tried to appease everyone by saying what they want to hear...i respect him. check his voting record, and as for electability, he won elections in pa in highly democrat districts five out of six times, only losing when the whole republican ticket lost heavily. he is concerned with manufacturing, small business, family values, and he obviously loves America with all his being...that is what we need now!

Unfortunately, when "he won elections in Pa in highly democrat districts 5 of 5 times", he was not running against nor was he in debates with a cool customer like Obama.

While it's true Santorum is solid on issues and integrity, his insecure and easily-ruffled demeanor detracts a lot from his ability to get elected, especially against a convincing actor like Obama.

Here is also some Santorum constituate information.

I lived in Western PA during Santorum's first run, thru his loss in the Senate. I like Rick, but back when there was a discussion on public financing of the new Stadium, there was big talk of raising the Local sales tax in order to finance it.

Santorum made a big push for this new sales tax, and nobody could seem to figure out why he seemed to change his belief of taxing to prosperity. The thought was that he was in the pocket of the Elsie Hillman wing of the Republican Party. AKA the Liberal establishment Rockefeller branch.

The vote went down in flames for the new stadium sales tax, by a record turnout for the vote on it. It then went thru the back door, and was financed through the State of PA.

I firmly believe that the public never forgot it, and Santorum fell from grace and was defeated after that tax fiasco.

I truley wish somebody would ask him about it, because Rick Santorum is not as Conservative as he tends to make himself.

You see there were repbulican Liberals. there was a time when both parties contained a sufficient number of liberals and conservatives to maintain checks and balances but no longer and the reason we are in such a mess.

As I posted in antother thread we are picking the best from a bad lot. I made my best guess early Saturday morning. The only certainty for me is that I will vote (God willing) for a Republican candidate against the worse president this country ever elected

So, please explain to me why, when one changes a position of their's based on additional information or knowledge, or maturity, it's a bad thing? I understand calling it flip flopping is an easy way to deal with the issue, but personally I think being able to learn is a very good thing.

Exactly......especially when the person comes around to take the very position you wanted him to be convinced of??

Since this is about abortion and Romney, how would MA Right to Life endorse him if he did not have a proven record of actions in office that agreed with their position??

I was speaking generically.....not any specific candidate or issue.

I was referring to the chacha and katz conversation on Santorum. Sorry to have quoted you, ladydoc but I do agree with the value of changing positions because of learning.

it is a good and noble thing to admit one's mistakes and learn and change...it is another thing entirely to espouse what you think is popular thought at the time in order to win votes... Santorum lives by principles and does not waiver when he is unpopular. that is what i call flip flopping.

I see that ChaChaCha sees a difference between learning and lieing. Yes, a person can learn what the did was wrong and not make that mistake again.

How about Newt, though? He cheated on wife #1 while she was undergoing treatment and surgery for uterine cancer. He cheated on wife #2 while she was in treatment for MS. He repented? No, he lies. Wife #3 is the "other woman" and she stands by Newt as he speaks of family values. Both liers!!
