Caulking removal & grout replacement
The floor in our master bedroom shower is tiled, but instead of using grout to fill in grooves between tiles, the builder used all caulk. As a result, mildew is beginning to grow. I can keep the mildew in check with bleach, but really want a permanent solution. I want all the caulking removed and replaced with grout.
Can anyone recommend a contractor to do this job? Thanks in advance. |
the dreaded caulk short cut.
SalPal the caulking on the shower floor doesn't even seem right. I really know little about this kind of stuff but I watch a lot of HGTV and I've never seen shower floors caulked instead of grouted. Seems like that was a poor short cut to me. Hope they don't take these short cuts while building the homes. I'm due to build in 2 weeks! Anyone else think this is a bad way to go?

The Villagers are first rate builders. I really believe that.
I am thinking that they would not put caulking instead of grout...
Salpal, are you absolutely sure of that, because mold has a way of growing on any dark, wet, warmish surface here in the tropics... I just read this... http://www.querycat.com/question/8fe...72bcee543c86a7 |
Yep
Yes, I am absolutely sure it is caulk, I actually have had my husband and two handymen confirm this. They were here to do other jobs and I asked them to look at the floor, but neither of them were skilled in this type of work. You can see the caulk peeling around all the sides, which is where the mildew is beginning. Also, the final test is that when I touch it, it is soft like caulk, not hard and gritty like grout.
One of the handymen recommended a service person to me for this work, but I lost the information, hence my post. |
Caulking removal and grout replacement
This is a very common practive by the contractors in The Villages - just one more way to do things "on the cheap". We had the same problem and as you are aware the bleach is a cosmetic repair only and can actually cause more damage. We found an excellent guy to do this work. He removed the caulking, replaced it with grout and then sealed the grout. this was several months ago and everything is fine now. His company is Tile and Marble Contractors. His name is William C. Parker. the phone number is 352 347 0954. This guy has been in this business his entire life - he knows his job and does it well. The total cost was around $200 and well worth it.
