Did anyone see the History Channel's, Little Known Secrets re The Day of Pearl Harbor"? I may not have the title exactly right but it's what FDR's day was like. The recollections and his decisions regarding the aftermath of the bombing.

THIS IS NOT POLITICAL!!!!!

One secret that I found extremely interesting was the concern for his safety and that he might be subject to shooting. A bullet-proof car was made available to him on his way to give his speech to Congress.

Military History Channel
 

Yes, I had seen that segment. I watch it very much as it has a lot of film footage on WW II never seen. Its the military history channel. It is quite different from the History Channel that now seems to focus on the Pickers, or the Larry, the cable guy, etc.

In some circles, it is thought that FDR actually wanted the US to get involved in WWII, so he allowed the Pearl Harbor attack to happen.

My wife and I went to Honolulu in September and got to see the Arizona memorial. It is impressive, and something that all Americans should see.

I agree. Taking the tour of Pearl Harbor is very sobering especially when you go out to the Arizona Memorial and fully realize the sacrafice made that day

If you enjoyed the program, I highly recommend "Long Day's Journey Into War" by Stanley Weintraub ... a fascinating look at what was happening around the world that day - not just high-level decision makers, but the activities of ordinary people.

I did see a portion of that, I never realized the extent of the physical challenges he endured,....excellent show!:thumbup:

FDR tried to hide his disability as best he could. He did not want the American people to view their President as a disabled person.

He got polio when he was 39 years old.

The vast majority of Americans didn't know he was disabled, (could not walk).

At certain times, he make a herculean effort to walk.
