Canadian Loonies and Toonies

We have planned a very special event for you for Wednesday February 8, 2012 at La Hacienda (Carmen Miranda Room). The meeting starts at 6:30 PM. The doors and the registration desk open at 5:30 PM. If you have not done so, please renew your membership for 2012. Please wear your name badge so we can identify you, and update it to the 2012 version. If you've joined at a recent meeting, you can collect your badge at the Registration Desk. Our last event was attended by close to 300 members.

We are very fortunate this month to have as speakers David Altro of Altro Associates based in Montreal and Toronto, as well as Alain Forget and Chuck Kirk of RBC.

David Altro is the author of Owning U.S. Property - The Canadian Way, 2nd Edition, a guidebook for all Canadians who own property in the U.S. The book provides solutions to common tax and real estate problems for Canadians who own property in the U.S. He is recognized as being the world authority on this subject. He is also extremely well versed in the Legal process for snowbirds should something catastrophic health-wise occur to us while we are here wintering, and what paperwork we need to file to protect our interests in the unlikely event something does happen to us or our spouse/partner. David, in addition to be being very informative is extremely entertaining and has a profound love for Canada and his precious Montreal Canadiens. We urge you to wear hockey sweaters, etc., to show your love of your favourite team to fire him up.

Alain Forget is the Vice President of Cross Border Banking and Chuck Kirk is the Bank Manager Leesburg branch for RBC. RBC is the only bank that offers Canadians cross border banking and will issue us an American VISA card, based on our Canadian credit score, which allows us to avoid the 3% surcharge Canadian VISA charges on each transaction. RBC is being sold to an American bank mid February, and will transition from a branch bank to a virtual bank. Alain and Chuck will explain to us in detail how that transformation will affect us.

We will also have on hand for your listening pleasure musical interludes by Joel Heck who will perform prior to and after the presentations. Please bring your own refreshments and your own snacks.

If you have any questions, please post here or feel free to PM me. For more information, please visit the website: looniesandtoonies.com, which also has information on all upcoming events, including golf tournaments, and hockey and baseball games.

Wish we could be there. The speaker sounds very interesting to us. Hope that you can fill us in regarding important things to know re owning property as Canadians. Hope to be at the March meeting.

We'll look forward to your arrival and seeing you at the March meeting. :clap2: I think you'll enjoy the Club. We just signed up for the Blue Jays/Phillies Spring Training Game in Dunedin.
