Not sure that "Items For Sale" is the best place to post this.

You may be chased off by the guy selling some bridge in New York...

I paddleboard there 2-3 times a week. Usually see kayakers, small sailboats and a few bass boats. There are usually people fishing from the fishing dock.

That being said, i think this thread needs to be moved to the appropriate forum.

You take Rainey Trail off Buena Vista to get to the lake. Just as your leaving the villages area, route CR 115 is to your left.

Here is a link to the map showing the location.

Swim?

Can you swim there?

mulligan 02-07-2012 07:58 AM

Only if you wear Gator repellant.

There is a small swimming beach but they put up a "no swimming" sign during the winter months. Don't be concerned about gators--I'm on that lake at least twice a week on my paddleboard and while I have seen a few, they are very afraid of humans (I try to get close to them to take pictures, but they always swim away).

Cappyjon! We all like you! You don't know if they are afraid or not! They may be discussing having you for someones birthday party and are just waiting for that!

Look at pictures of them in books. Sheesh. You may be more "death adjacent" than you think.

Gracie, I was raised in Florida and have been around gators my entire life. I find it is only people coming from up north who are very afraid of these critters. I truly wish they wouldn't perpetuate fear of these iconic creatures. I once had a fortune cookie that said "Fear is the darkroom where negatives develop." It is now my motto.

I guess it's understandable--they are kinda toothy looking and we all remember the old Tarzan movies where he has to wrestle the giant croc that has eaten all the villagers. Gators might come across as scary, but when you realize there are literally millions of gators in this state and that tens of thousands of humans use recreational areas loaded with gators everyday without incident, fear is not necessary . Gator attacks are extrememely rare (and usually caused by people who decided to feed the gators, even though it is illegal) and shouldn't prevent us from enjoying Florida's natural beauty.

Having lived in Florida for several years back in the 70's and 80's you can pretty safely assume that any inland body of water has gators. I remember a company I worked for in Boca Raton had an Employee's Recreation Center where they built a small lake. Originally, it was intended for fishing and swimming. Swimming was prohibited rather quickly because gators were seen in the lake within a month of it being built.

When you are dealing with wild things, there is no such thing as "always".
When you enter any body of water, you become part of the food chain.
