Where can I buy area rugs at good prices?

My wife and I shopped for new rugs today for our Lantana. We need area rugs for the dining room area, entry, dinette and lanai. We went to the Marion flea market and were disappointed in selection and quality. Then we went to Rug World and were disappointed in prices. Anyone have suggestions on where to look?

Thanks, Peter

A lot of my friends have purchased their rugs at a vendor at "Market of Marion" Large selection and great price.

I also have a friend who went to a local carpet store and had them make one for her. Just the colors she wanted! Looks wonderful and I think it's better quality rug. I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going to do when we get there!

Gracie... can you post a picture of your rug? :)

Try Lowe's and Home Depot. I know of two folks who found just what they wanted at Lowe's.

Sorry....

I didn't see that you went to Market of Marion and didn't like the rugs.

I didn't see anything I like either, but I saw one in a home I loved and she told me they have a book you can look through if you don't see anything.

A few years ago (pre-TV), we bought a large area rug from Lowes or Home Depot (I can never keep them straight). Not cheap but reasonable, good selection and quality. If you don't like what they have in the store, you can special order.

Try overstock.com and homedecorators.com If you want to see them first, just order the 1 ft by 2 ft size as they are usually only $10 or so. Best prices and good quality.

Did you know that you can go to most carpet stores and pick out a carpet you like for your area rug? That's what we did here. The house we bought needed all new carpet and we had a huge 14 by 16 piece left so we had it bound into an area rug. Now the room looks great with the wood floor showing around the edge and an area rug that matches our carpet in the middle of the room. We have carpet pad under ours because it has a jute back but you can buy carpets with a soft cotton like back on them that don't need pad or floor protection.

That's what we had in our last house. It was actually a remnant, cream colored with a palm tree branch design cut into the carpet.....the backing was soft cotton and we had it bound with a cream colored binding......it looked great with the oak floors. It was a 10 by 12 and it was only $120.00 done and delivered.

try the furniture stores

Most carry some in stock of various sizes. White's, Babette's, probably Southern Living, etc.

And Foxy's Rug Gallery, just north of Hwy. 42 on 441. They have a wonderful selection, although can be pricey.

Peter, We've been looking for area rugs for more than a year. We hit all of the obvioius local stops: Southern Lifestyles, Rug World, Best Flooring, Target, Home Depot, and Lowes, and of course, the internet--and had almost given up. We just bought two (an 8X10 and a5X8) from the Rug Rat at Marion Market. They tend to have more contemporary designs but it was what we were looking for. Rug World has more traditional carpeting and yes at a steep price. Like so many things in life, it's timing. The furniture stores are constantly replenishing their area rugs as they sell usually right off the floor. We were skeptical about Marion Market because we don't normally do flea markets but we were pleasantly surprised.

I bought an area rug at Tuesday Morning near Kohl's and was at a good price. Check it out.

Another vote for Foxy Rugs. Good knowledgable sales staff.

I ordered mine on line from JC Penney. Great choices, quality and prices (50% off sale). They also offered free shipping over a specified price.

We went to Carpet One in Ocala, previously owned by Foxy's. We had two area rugs with borders made for great room and dining room. They attached backing so as not to scratch wood floors. It wasn't cheap but not as expensive as other quotes.

I am going to try to get the photo to come up but if it doesn't it is in Albums under my screen name if you wanna see it.
