Who likes Chinese food?

Why is Chinese food usually so salty? Is it because everything is soaking in teriyaki sauce? Teriyaki sauce should be called "liquid sodium". The last time I ate at a Chinese restaurant I felt like I had reached my limit for sodium consumption. My mouth felt like it was full of salt. And everything tasted like Teriyaki. How boring.

Does anyone know of a Chinese place that has low sodium food?

Cheng's Chinese food across from Walmart on 466

has the best chinese food in TV as far as I am concerned. I am chinese and my mother and father-in-law owned Kwongchow, a fabulous chinese restaurant in Toronto's chinatown for many years, so I have eaten and cooked lots of dishes. I always ask for no MSG added and have found the food to be very tasty and authentic. Give it a try and see what you think. Let the waitress know that you are on a low salt diet. I don't like the buffets around town. The veggies are usually very soggy, and the take out in the colony plaza seems to use alot of sauce over everything. JMHO

We've been less than satisfied with China Gourmet (466A by Publix) lately. I mentioned that the chicken was very dry and was told to come back earlier in the day, apparently they make the days supply in the morning. Used to be very good, maybe after April when things slow down they will do better. We tried Changs, egg foo young was much better at China Gourmet and my wife's favorite, chicken broccoli, wasn't to her liking. I think there is one off of RT. 42 but too far for us for a quick takeout.

I believe it's more of a soy sauce problem than teriyaki! Even the reduced sodium soy sauce is full of sodium

I vote for Cheng's also.

I also love Cheng's.

Has anyone been to the Chinese Buffet on 441 by the Walmart in Leesburg? Just wondering how it was at it was reopened around 6 months ago.

We went to the Leesburg Buffet

in the Fall last time we were down. It wasn't too bad, and better than the ones in TV we thought, but not worth the gas to go down there specially. Cheng's still beat it. Wish they had a buffet.

Personally when in the mood for chinese food I go to china town in NYC. Never had a problem there.
P.S. Can't get there on your golf cart sorry.

I've been there a couple times for the lunch buffet,...it's not bad. It satisfies the Chinese craving I get every couple of months. :D

I agree Graytop.

If I'm watching the $ and I want variety and quantity to satisfy a craving for some Chinese food then the buffet fits the bill. Still won't drive down just for that, so a trip to Beall's usually works and of course JCP is there too, so I'll make a daytrip.

Thanks for all the information. It's nice to hear from an expert on Chinese food. I like the idea of a buffet for two reasons: 1) the price (about $6 for lunch?) and 2) I can actually see the food and make my selections based on what I see.

If I go into a Chinese restaurant and get a menu, the prices will usually be a lot higher and it will be a guess on my part as to what I'll be getting.

We've tried all of them in the area and so far Cheng's is the best we have had. It's not as good as some we have had in major metropolitan areas (Miami, NYC, LA, San Fran), but it is still the best we've had in the area and the bottom line is it's still pretty good (and I don't have to do dishes!).

Chinese food

I've tried all of them in and near the The Villages, although none are as good as Miami, NYC or Orlando, best we've had in the area are outside the Villages on the way to Leesburg on 27/441. I have not tried any north of the Villages, so I don't know them.
