Ocean Fishing

Good Morning, Everyone, What a gorgeous day AGAIN!

Whenever I need good advice this is the place. So . . . Son-in-law and grandsons coming in a few weeks. They would love to go on an ocean fishing charter (hubby too)!

What is the EASIEST place to get to and what charter would you recommend.

Thanks for all of your help in advance.

Have a wonderful day!

Try searching TOTV for info on Crystal River area fishing.

or check out this link

I haven't been fishing in the Gulf in many years, but we used to go grouper fishing out of Crystal River and also did some good bottom fishing out of Cedar Key. Crystal River is less than an hour away, Cedar Key is closer to two hours. Both have several charter party boats.

If you want real ocean fishing close to the warm gulf stream current, I'd look at Stuart about a 3 hour run. The stream veers east and out North of there. The sailfishing in Stuart is excellent in the winter months. Other inlets just south of Stuart are Jupiter Inlet and Palm Beach (Lake Worth Inlet) that have decent charter boats. I would target the inshore species there.

If you want a world class experience, go to Whale Harbor in Islamorada and book with Capt. Rob Dixon. He is the best. His boat is a 42' Hatteras. I've fished with "Skip' Bradeen and Kerry Price out of Whale Harbor. Both pros. Check the long range forecast for sea conditions.

Good luck.
