The Hunger Games.

This movie got a big write-up in today's The Villages Daily Sun but an aside did mentioned that it is not opening here in the Villages.

Would like to know if it is worth going to Leesburg or Ocala for or should I wait for the DVD? I have read the book of the same name. Love this lead actress' work and it looks to have a lot of other good actresses/actors in it.

The-Numbers.com prognosticator has it having a huge opening weekend of around $128 million.

I totally cannot understand why it is not going to play here? :22yikes:What's up with that? Now I've got to drive to Ocala or Orlando?? The early reviews are over the top, yes Taltarzac, GO SEE IT!!:cryin2:

It is playing at the AMC theater in Leesburg and at the Belleview Cinema.

:icon_twisted: Why anyone would spend good money to support a violent movie about teenagers killing each other just leaves me COLD.:cryin2:

old moe: I agree doesn't say much for our culture does it. By the way critic in WSJ said the leading young star was the only thing he liked about this movie

Hunger Games gets an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The critics seem to really like this film.

The book can be viewed from different points of view. Some see it from the perspective the 99% protesters, rich v poor.
I read it as a comment on oppressive government, and on reality tv. From the reviews it appears the violence is played down in the movie to get the pg 13 rating.

Obviously the powers that be think the movie is not appropriate for TV residents to see.

Think it is the Michael Moore movies this film distributor--Lionsgate-- also handles. They would probably have to show these very liberal movies to also show The Hunger Games. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ionsgate_films

Saw it in Leesburg

If you read the books you will like the movie. I saw it today in Leesburg. I had to explain some of it to my husband who hadn't read the book. It was worth my time to go to Leesburg.

I am also going to the eye doctor next week.

Perhaps then the little font will be easy for me to see. LOL SORRY!

From my prior post on the other Hunger Games thread:

I decided to contact 'TheatreInfo' and see if I would get a response about Lionsgate films and the possible showing of Hunger Games. I emailed them and when they got back with me here is what they said:

"Thanks for your inquiry.
Unfortunately, we do not have a Contract with LIONSGATE Films. Our attorneys and theirs just seem to not be able to work out a glitch. Until such time as they can, we will not be showing any Lionsgate Films, which this title is one.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
TheatreInfo"

I asked the theatre manager why it wasn't going to be shown here and the answer was the theatres here don't have a contract with the distributor. I've read all three books and thought they were excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie when I go home in seven days.

Nothing new. It's called fiction and these themes have been played out before.

Perhaps you remember a 1954 book/film (1960) called Lord of the Flies? Not the exact same but you get my point.

The Hunger Games is setting records for non-sequel openings.

The Numbers News - Friday Estimates: Hunger Games Smashes Non-Sequel Single Day Record

This movie could set an opening weekend record for the best movie opening outside of a summer opening. We will just have to see.
