A.M. Radio reception in The Villages
 

I get poor reception of A.M. radio stations (except Villages radio) in my home & with my portable radios. Reception in the car is fine, Does anyone else have the same problem or know the reason for the poor reception? Is there a plan to improve the situation?

I have noticed the same problem. Very aggravating. Sure hope someone is listening who has the power to ramp things up. I love talk radio and would really enjoy listening to more than just The Villages station.

I have the same problem with radio reception. AM radio fine in the car, terrible in the house. I have one of those poor builder installed radio's. The problem, in my opinion, is there is not that much demand for good AM receivers. Try looking at CC Crane for a good AM radio and get one that you can attach an auxiliary antenna.

I am afraid AM radio is going the way of the milkman and produce huckster. i.e. a victim of technology.

That said I use my computer for AM radio.

This is my number one entertainment peeve about The Villages.

I've never heard of any plan to rectify it. The static is so darn annoying. Sometimes you have to give up.

Satellite radio is a good alternative. Although, if it's Rush Limbaugh you like to hear, he doesn't broadcast on satellite. You can hear Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin and others, though.

You can listen to Rush Limbaugh and others for free through your computer. Click on this New York station's website and click the the "Listen Live" icon. You can hear their whole line-up for free.

I think most radio stations are on the net so search for the call letters or frequency and city/state and you will probably find the web site for the station. Then look for "listen Live" and click the link.

I ended up purchasing an internet radio. It is a wireless device which therefore requires a wireless router. Crystal clear reception. Can program it to receive literally thousands of stations in the US and all over the world. My is from Grace Digital.

Must be something (metal framing?) in the housing construction that reduces the radio signals from coming through. A external antenna would be the answer if you wanted to go into the expense and trouble. Insofar as listening to syndicated talk radio hosts such as Rush, Hannity, Beck and others on the internet, you are out of luck if you think you can get them for free. Commercial radio stations are not allowed to simulcast these shows over the internet. Instead, they will substitute alternative programming on the internet when Rush or whoever is on. To listen to these hosts over the internet, you have to pay and subscribe to their website. When Rush is broadcasting on WABC in New York, there is another program playing on the internet feed.

That's not true. I've often listened to Rush on the internet on WABC.
