It seems to me that a grocery delivery businsss would go very well here. In the New York suburbs, ShopRite had its own delivery business - you set up your order on line and they delivered it at a time of your choice. The fee was a percent of your order, not too expensive, like $6 for a $100 order Very convenient for people housebound or just not up to shopping. Then in Manhattan there was another service called FreshMarket (which got me confused when I got here and saw the store with the same name, but there's no connection.) Everything they delivered was carefully handpicked and fresh, even things like ice cream. I loved it and wish we had it here, especially now when the stores are so crowded.

I agree that your idea would indeed be popular, especially at the busy season when the supermarkets are crowded, parking a dilemma or it's TOO HOT to go though it all. We would shop early in the a.m. when the stores first opened and had no problems, but they are HUGE stores to get around. Perhaps once we are more familiar with the layout of where everything is....but it was tedious.
For those older Villagers plus those with mobility issues, your idea would be a hit.
I've heard that SCHWANS delivers within The Villages, however, they are all frozen foods. Their French Baguettes are so good they are used in the best of restaurants up here. Their ice cream is also great. They also carry veggies, fruits (not that great), meats and seafoods, pies, etc. They deliver it frozen straight from the frozen truck and stack your freezer for you.
If you are not at home they leave a "freezer bag" on your front porch.
