Grocery delivery?

It seems to me that a grocery delivery businsss would go very well here. In the New York suburbs, ShopRite had its own delivery business - you set up your order on line and they delivered it at a time of your choice. The fee was a percent of your order, not too expensive, like $6 for a $100 order Very convenient for people housebound or just not up to shopping. Then in Manhattan there was another service called FreshMarket (which got me confused when I got here and saw the store with the same name, but there's no connection.) Everything they delivered was carefully handpicked and fresh, even things like ice cream. I loved it and wish we had it here, especially now when the stores are so crowded.

There is already a grocery delivery business here in TV. Grocery Delivery

Also, you mention $6 for a delivery? In an environment the geographical size of The Villages, with todays price of gas and the level of wages, you'd be living in the past if you think anyone would come anywhere close to $6 for that kind of service. I would expect that kind of price back in the '60's or early '70's, but not today! Would you do it for $6? I certainly wouldn't!

I live in a large town. Our megga grocer here will shop for you and put your order in a huge refrigerator. Then you drive up ring the bell, and they will put your grocries in your vehicle for $6.00.

I agree that your idea would indeed be popular, especially at the busy season when the supermarkets are crowded, parking a dilemma or it's TOO HOT to go though it all. We would shop early in the a.m. when the stores first opened and had no problems, but they are HUGE stores to get around. Perhaps once we are more familiar with the layout of where everything is....but it was tedious.

For those older Villagers plus those with mobility issues, your idea would be a hit.

I've heard that SCHWANS delivers within The Villages, however, they are all frozen foods. Their French Baguettes are so good they are used in the best of restaurants up here. Their ice cream is also great. They also carry veggies, fruits (not that great), meats and seafoods, pies, etc. They deliver it frozen straight from the frozen truck and stack your freezer for you.
If you are not at home they leave a "freezer bag" on your front porch.

Re: GROCERY DELIVERY website....

What a great website.....especially the home cleaning, etc.
Great for those with arthritis and inflamed joints, etc.

Thank you for sharing....the prices listed seem more than fair, considering as you mention, the rising cost of gasoline, etc.

I just used the service for the first time for Sunday football. We ordered from Tiki's and had it delivered. $5. Not bad. Not bad at all. It was simpler than I tried to make it. You order, call The Village Grocery Delivery. They pick it up and bring it to your house. You pay them when it arrives. Easy, peasy.

I'm am in no way associated with this business except as a patron. BUT that does not mean I would not stoop to accepting discounts and coupons.
