Concrete and siltstone counters and GEOS

If you have installed concrete or silestone countertops, can you comment on how you like them; did you use a different color for the island than the counters, and who are the best to buy from locally? Also has anyone used GEOS, the recycled glass, for countertops and what do you think? Thanks!

Hi Jane. Just want to tell you that we do have Silestone countertops in our home in Virginia. We've had them for about seven years and absolutely love them. Easy to take care of, they don't stain or chip, and don't require any special care, just clean with a damp cloth. We have an island in our kitchen here and have the same top on it as the rest of the counters. Unfortunately, I can't give any advice about where to buy them for The Villages, but we bought ours from Home Depot. A company called Counter Intelligence installed them and did a great job. Perhaps Home Depot down there uses an equally great company. Good luck with getting everything for your home done. We're looking forward to customizing our home in Mission Hills, too.

Thanks for letting me know about the silestone, sounds like it has been great for your home.

I would also love to hear from anyone who has used the new Recylced Glass countertops called GEOS or the new concrete colored countertop look. I have been reading about 2012 countertop trends and the silestone, GEOS and concrete seem to be used as well as of course granite. I like the sound of the recyled glass countertops, I thought when the sun hits them they might look somewhat like stained glass, which I presently have in my farmhouse and will not have with us in TV because I do not want to block the view. Anyone? I am thinking about using a product that is different than granite though still keeping granite an option.

Love my silestone

I have silestone installed in my current home, as well as have had it in my previous home.

It really gets my vote over granite. It is easy to clean, never needs to be sealed, can withstand a hot pot, and because it is not porous, will not hold bacteria or germs.

When I get to the villages, I will use it again.

I bought from the local Home depot, and it was a pleasant experience both time.

Silestone countertops

We are planning to upgrade to Silestone and everyone we have talked to that had Silestone loved it and it's nice to see these posts. We plan to use Home Depot as it seems most we talked to used them as well as these posts

A little off topic, but we installed Quartz countertops in our Connecticut home!! Has the granite look and feel, but without the maintenance of sealing them. We worked with Lowes and their installers and it was a very pleasant experience. Caught them when they had them on sale and the price was very competitive with Silestone.

We have Silestone in our kitchen and love it. It looks very similar to granite but is tougher and requires less maintenance than granite. To me, it does seem to be slightly less glossy than granite. Others might feel differently.
