I'm new here and can't believe the way some folks are getting screwed by the locals.

You need to get it in writing

Get referrals

Pay by check, get a signed receipt

If you get the bad side of the deal forget BBB not worth the time.

Just go to small claims court, most of the time when they get the notice they will fix it.

If not get a judgement against them.

Also, give Crimes Vs. Seniors a call before hiring a contractor. They can tell you if anyone else has had a problem with a particular contractor and asked them for help.
They encourage you to call them and it's definitely worthwhile.
