What do I do with extra dirt???

I just planted some bushes. After I dug the holes, I replaced the soil with some good potting soil. So, I have a wheel barrow full of dirt/sand/clay. How can I get rid of it? Trash pickup won't take it.

Thanks...Nancy

That's very funny...but a really good question... I am sure I will be in the same predicament. Can't wait to hear the answer.

Go over to the new construction area. You will find 5 gal. cans all over the area. Grab a couple, put the dirt in them then return to the new construction area and dump it.

This is a little off-topic, but I heard from a farmer years ago that whether you had too little dirt or too much dirt left over when planting (or digging fence post holes) depended on the phase of the moon.

Since it's now the full moon, perhaps if you had planted during the dark phase of the moon you wouldn't have had excess dirt? You said that you added potting soil, so that's likely the reason for the excess dirt, but has anybody else ever heard of the connection between the volume of dirt and the phase of the moon?

I too had lotso dirt left over after planting. Gave some to a neighbor with a low spot in his yard and asked the guys who cut the grass if they would take the rest.
They did.

We happen to have grass so hubby just spread the extra dirt over the grassy area. Guess it would be more of a problem if you only have stone!

Yes I do. When it is in the DARK of the moon, it seems like less dirt, because you can't SEE it.

Just ask me. I am the font of misinformation. :).

You never know when you might need a little in the future. So, just save some of it in containers (plastic bags or whatever). I have some in containers hiding behind my hedges. When I need some, I'm glad I have it.

You can spread it here

TOTV is a great site to spread a little dirt. It really gets raked over pretty well if you have some really good dirt:p

I'm wondering if you could put the dirt in a few brown garden bags and leave it at your curb on your assigned " garden/leaves/branch/etc. (whatever it's called) pick up day.

Potting soil in the garden?

Have you been successful using potting soil in the garden? I didn't think it was recommended for use outside of pots.
