What are the rules about dogs in TV???

I am new here and wondering if what I am seeing is acceptable. People walk their dogs and allow them to urinate on lawns (and those lawns were expensively landscaped). Some do use a baggie to pickup solid waste. Some let them go on a house that has not sold yet, and not pick it up. Is there a designated area people with dogs should take them? Are there rules regarding barking dogs? What recourse does someone in TV have if a neighbor leaves a barking dog out on a screened lanai? Dog lovers please be kind and not shoot the messenger. The rest of us have rights too.

I can feel my shorts bunching up already...............

:D

RedChariot, in addition to what feedback you get from this thread, you might want to take a couple of swings at the Search function with some different search terms to see feedback from prior threads on the subject. Search term that might hit about everything you'd ever want to know on the topic: "dog poop"

And welcome to TOTV!!

Bill :)

Not gonna shoot the messenger. I agree. That is why we bought a CYV...so our dog could be in its OWN yard safely for hours, and do its dooooooty on our OWN property.

Everyone here has a yard.....so USE it. (Not somebody else's.)

Sounds just like our neighborhood in Vermont. I think it's a losing battle.
Pets can do no wrong in the eyes of many owners. However, I often cringe thinking that my visiting, often barefoot, grandchildren will "slide down a hill" in the dog messes.

Some of the dog walkers are quite eccentric as we view them.
They truly do believe the pets are human.

They will literally walk the dog up the grassy front lawn hill to the pet's favorite spot. I'm laughing as I type this........but again, I don't think home owners can win over the pooches......plus there are bigger concerns in the world.....but yes, it is annoying.

Oh... I don't think so, at least I hope not.

RedChariot, it's like this: There are people here in TV (like everywhere else) who choose to ignore the generous concept of being considerate of others. Sometimes they do it selectively and sometimes it is a determined lifestyle effort and encompasses everyone and every situation.
Occasionally it is unconscious, but not often. Most times it is a flat disregard
for others.
And bottom line, they do it because they WANT to. It's a choice.

TV is my home and I love living here. At our age, we all know how to behave and what is socially accepted behavior. Unless someone is newly arrived from another culture where social norms are different, or unless they are mentally altered in some way, they know how to act.

If others don't follow the program there aren't many options to correct the annoyance. Even if they are 'called on it', if they are determined and stubborn enough, they will just do whatever they really want to do, when nobody is looking next time.

You can try various ideas, but you'll have your gut in a knot most often.... your 'knickers in a twist'. The good thing here is that those people reveal themselves really fast, so you don't have to waste your time only to discover later that they aren't worthy.

AND P.S. You CAN call Community Watch about the barking dog left on the Lanai. You must give their address and your name. I did it to relieve my ears but also to help the poor distressed doggie who was left out there repeatedly. It worked. Both he and I are much calmer now and live in harmony.

I am new to The Villages - just moved in in January. Let me start by writing that I have enjoyed TOTV for months now - you have been very informative and bring a smile to my face on a daily basis. Once one dog pees on a spot, each and every passing pooch has to put its mark on it - that is the case with our 'corner' lot. Yesterday, a spotted a man coming up the street with his dog and for some reason I just knew he was going to stop in our yard. I took my cup of coffee out to the lanai and stood there - staring at the man - no words spoken - when he noticed me watching, he tugged at the dogs leash and pulled him back in to the street. He knew he was wrong to allow his dog to pee on our grass but did it anyway!!! Guess I'll have to purchase a can of green spray paint to cover the brown spots
