Best Route from Olney, IL to TV Without Going Through Mountains
I'm looking for the very best route to get back to FL, without going through Birmingham, AL...and in areas like that. I don't care if it gives me an extra day to get down. But I don't want to get back home by going through moutain areas. Any ideas are very much welcome.

Not exactly sure if this route would work for you......but check Google Maps:
- US 50 east to US 41 south - Pick up I-69 south in Evansville, IN - I-24 east to Chattanooga - I-75 south to TV (pick whatever roads you like to get to where you want in TV) Bill :) |

DoboraL, we moved to TV from Champaign, so we have traveled that route before. When we were evaluating how to move our household, the mountains near Chattanooga eliminated "Mike will rent a truck and drive it himself" from our list. We have also traveled the Nashville-Birmingham-Montgomery-Dothan-Tallahassee route. I don't remember the mountains being as bad. In fact, I don't remember mountains at all. From my limited knowledge of geography, you may need to head west before heading south. Maybe go I57-I55-I10. I haven't traveled this route. |

Nope, I don't want to fly. Yes, I'm planning on this move to take place in the next four years. I've got things I'm bringing with me, including 4 beautiful cats. So, flying isn't an option.

I've been both routes
The Nashville-Birmingham-Montgomery-Dothan-Tallahassee route, adds about 2 hours to the trip. Mileage is almost the same, the travel thru small towns is the additional time.

It's that route where I would deal with the 'hills' with those steep grades, not exactly what I want to do. I've done that route once and bare knuckled it all the way, people passing me as I was dealing with something I never drove in before. Coming down on the other side, I was putting my foot on the brakes all the way down, scared out of my wits and afraid of getting hit. I'm sure there is an easier way, even if it adds 4 hours to my trip back.

Maybe St Louis to Memphis to Jackson to Mobile to TV.

That sounds like a nice route and that's a beautiful cat.

Olney to TV
I come from the Chicago area and just used 65 to 24 to 75. While there are mountains around the Chatanooga area, much of 24 has been reworked a bit and it is not as steep or narrow as in former years. But, yes, there are mountains. Do you get car sick, or just don't care for the mountains at all? I do get car sick but had no problem with this route.

Chuckinca is right...not a hill in sight after 75 miles south of St. Louis...flat as a pancake from Mo bootheel through Ak, MS, Al into FL. Little further but no hills.
