One Industry is booming during the Obama Regime.

According to this story in the Washington Times; "The National Shooting Sports Foundation says the economic impact of firearm sales — a figure that includes jobs. taxes and sales — hit $31 billion in 2011, up from $19 billion in 2008.

Jobs in the firearms business jumped 30 percent from 2008 to 2011, when the industry employed 98,750.

The industry paid $2.5 billion in federal taxes in 2011, up 66 percent in three years."

Some industry sources attribute the rapid rise in the industry to the "Obama Factor", with consumers afraid of President Obama's impact in the possible restricting of gun rights.

People in the industry jokingly refer to Obama as the "salesman of the year". What an honor!!

I have to give the President credit where credit is due. It's my obligation :)

And what is Mitt Romney's position on gun ownership?? He used to be pro gun control while back in Massachusetts. http://gunowners.org/op09292011tm.htm

"At least one frontrunner candidate stands in contrast with a decidedly mixed record on the gun issue. While Mitt Romney likes to 'talk the pro-gun talk,' he has not always walked the walk." from above linked article by gunowners.

I doubt if the NRA can really count on Candidate Mitt Romney, he looks like a very talented politician who mainly just goes along with what is opportune to say for his supporters. That changes, quite a bit IMHO.

I actually like some of his positions on gun ownership from when he was back in Massachusetts. They sound like Romney has a lot of common sense about the 2nd Amendment.

How About The Oil Companies?

Hey, Richie, the oil companies aren't doing too bad either. Yeah, the price of oil is increasing--the conservatives blame Obama for that--and gas at the pump is up around $4 a gallon in most places and $5 in some. Some reports say that people are driving less and using less gas. That should mean that the oil companies are suffering, right?

Not so fast, my friend. The oil companies are doing just fine, thank you very much. Here's how much the price of the stocks of several oil companies have increased, all within the last 7-8 months. With market performance like this, those oil executives will be getting multi-gazillion dollar bonuses. And if the recently-passed House bill cutting taxes goes thru, they'll get to keep a whole lot more of the money than they did last year. And the lobbyists will surely keep all those tax loopholes in place, maybe they'll even get Congress to improve on them. Maybe the oil company execs and the companies will even create some jobs.

Here ya go...
  • Valero Energy (refiner) - +67%
  • Exxon - +25%
  • Sunoco - +40%
  • Marathon - +26%
  • British Petroleum - +34%
  • Conoco Phillips - +26%
  • Chevron - +13%
Geez, if any of you own any of these stocks in your portfolios, you ought to be cheering Obama on to keep on doing what he's doing...particularly if you're driving an electric golf cart around The Villages (like me).

Why would anyone in their right mind refer to a "presidency" as a "regime"? OMG! I think that's the answer!

Please list all the anti-gun legislation President Obama has advocated and got passed since taking office. As I recall, a recent new law allows guns in national parks.

Perception is everything; and coupled with the words of his own people are what matters in the mind of the consumer.

How come no one joined me in my praise for the President's influence in boosting the Firearms industry? There were just all kinds of posts that had nothing to do with the thread.

Very strange.

DaleMN

that is your opinion but it is not what it means.

Non gun owners always look at the gun issue as if the bad guy is going to follow the rules. And they also assume the good guy with a gun is a bad guy.

And most importantly always left out or forgotten or conveniently missed....no amount of legislation or tightening of the laws is going to prevent the bad guys from getting a gun.

Your position is respected, however incorrect it may be.

What are the "words of his own people"? I didn't see that mentioned in your original post. Perception can also be spelled paranoia.

You must have the president confused with Gov Jan Brewer R-AZ who just vetoed a law that would have allowed guns in government buildings, libraries, senior centers, etc.

Guns Guns Guns

I started a new thread (Ann Coulter Historian) which addresses this very issue. Also ilovetv followed up with a brief on and by Condi Rice which reinforces Coulter's article. You folks may want to take a peek. it may or may not stop the "is so" "is not" going on here.
