I bet you're a Vegan. :yuck: If we don't eat them, we will make glue. They'll still be dead. |

No problem with horses being used for food in societies/cultures which have planned for that use of horses. We have not and the chemicals put into horses here in the US often make them unsafe to eat.

I did try it once, in France, and honestly, i did not like it. It was too tough. Would not do it again.
I live near The New Forest, our first National Park in England. We have wild ponies here, a very special breedm small and quite lovely to look at. Every autumn the verderers sell of the young, and not so young. French & Spanish butchers are the only folks who buy. Then we get the Brits who buy them for pets. I prefer the latter. |
Thank you Taltarzac for posting some information to bring facts to the audience. The idea that if you are against horse slaughter, you must be a Vegan is silly. Eating horse is wrong for so many reasons.
1. The meat is filled with chemicals such as bute (phenylbutazone) a carginogen, steroids, dewormers, vaccinations, etc. The EU is now no longer accepting American horses because of the amount of untraceable chemicals. 2. There is no way to slaughter a horse humanely..unlike cattle. It is a brutal ending. 3. These animals have been domesticated by humans and have worked in service, in partnership, as trusted companions...they deserve more than the horrific death they receive. No one in America with any moral sensibility would do that to any animal. It is torture. google horse slaughter video and you will be horrified to see what it really is. 4. Horse slaughter does not solve any problem with unwanted or over abundance of horses. In fact, it encourages more horses. As long as there is a place to dispose of a horse, responsibility for the animal can be avoided. The only solution to the over abundance is slowing the out of control breeding. 5. The value of horses is now tied to their slaughter value and until there is equilibrium in the market, the value will continue to decline. 6. From an economic point of view, dead horses reap no more economic benefit. Live horses produce values to farriers, feed stores, vets, boarding, tack and saddlery, shows, trainers, lessons, therapeutic riding programs, groomers, and on and on. 7. The entire slaughter pipeline is driven by deceit.. from the auctions to the truckers to the foreign owned plants. The slaughter folks say the horses are old and sick and they are doing a service. The reality is they leave the old and the sick and take the young and meaty. Think about it. Why would they want the old and infirm? The USDA states that 92% are between the ages of 5-12, in the prime of their lives. So slaughter is no solution to the "unwanted" horse. If you want to know more, just ask. Or go on any of the following websites: Equine Welfare Alliance (EWA), Americans Against Horse Slaughter, Respect4Horses. And honestly, CMANN, I think you will find there are far better options for glue. |

Your earlier post indicated you were looking for "better options" for glue:
"And honestly, CMANN, I think you will find there are far better options for glue." "Please share with us your "far better options." If what you really meant to say was you wanted to know how to handle the over abundance of horses, then we can discuss that. If you want an answer to the "overabundance", as a rule, Americans do not breed for the high standards that the EU does so a significant amount of horses "don't cut it". We have every Tom, Dick, and Harry breeding low quality horses. Secondly, the AQHA is the largest contributor to the slaughter pipeline. They essentially run a pyramid scheme with the registration fees and at the end of the day mares are pushing out foal after foal. Without slaughter, they have no way to absorb the population and keep those fees coming. If the slaughter option is taken off the table, a responsible business model will have to be put in place rather than using slaughter as the garbage can and horses as disposable cups. The registration fees will be cut significantly. As long as slaughter for horses exists, there will be no changes in the way the horse industry operates...the overbreeding will continue..like puppy mills. As long as slaughter exits, the quantity of horses will continue to push value down. As long as slaughter exists, the horse industry will not recover. |
