what medicare plan do you have and why?

we are planing to move from Texas to TV and would like to hear what medicare plans you're happy with or the ones to avoid ... thanks in advance!

You might want to visitPreferred Care Partners in Sumter Landing--near AAA. We have their plan. Some want Medicare plus supplement. Others want an Advantage Plan. These folks are nearby for a 1:1 conversation.

We have Preferred Care and are having problems with them kicking drs out of their plan in the middle of the year but we can't go to another plan midyear to follow our drs. Very distressing. It is cheap but not a lot of drs to choose from.

We have United Heathcare through AARP, and have been very happy with the coverage. I was with New York Life in the mid-nineties when we negotiated with AARP to offer a life insurance plan through them. They were very thorough in their negotiations, and insisted on the best possible features, benefits, and price for their members. Because of that, I am convinced, with their huge membership base, that they have negotiated the best possible plan to partner with.

:agree
Not so important when you are in good health with little or no "issues" but believe me that can change overnight! I believe you get exactly what you pay for. We've had very good service with AARP United Healthcare.

We have Original Medicare plus a supplement with AARP/United Healthcare. No issues at all. Both pay promptly. Plus, Original Medicare allows one to use any provider in the U.S. that accepts Medicare. No searching for doctors in the network.

It was tricky to change to AARP/United, from a union IBEW plan, as we both had to answer certain health questions in order to enroll. However, if you enroll shortly after turning 65 you don't have to answer those questions.

Supplemental insurance is expensive, but worry-free. Now, if we can just keep the drug costs under Medicare Part "D" down....

We have had good luck with our primary care doctor. Both my husband and I like him. I did have to.change the eye doctor I had an appointment with. Called over to Sumter Landing and they set me up with another doctor. Appointment is for June. For me that was a minor change.

Everything you say is true about supplemental. We had it for a number of years. We each paid over $200 a month for this or $400 plus per month. About $150 for supplement plus $50 for RX drugs.

Now we pay nothing. We set aside that $400 in case we would have unexpected copays with our advantage plan. Our primary care is 0 copay and specialists $10.

United purchased PreferredCare Partners and will be overseeing them next year. Time will tell if this is good or bad.

My medicare advantage plan is: Optimum Gold Rewards Plan

Being a health nut, I enjoy near perfect health so the deciding factor was: They refund nearly all of my medicare premium every month. I take that as a reward for taking good care of my health, although, less healthy people get the same refund of their premium. :)

Primary care office visit: $0 copayment

Specialty office visit: $25 copayment

Out of network: 30%

So far, I like my primary care doctor. I had an issue with a toe nail and he made the arrangements for me to see a foot doctor. I could have done it myself but he offered to do it and he picked a good foot doctor. Everything worked out fine.

Then I got a thorn in the palm of my hand and I couldn't get it out because I couldn't see it. I went to my doctor and he couldn't see it either. (It had been bothering me for over a month.) Inspite of not being able to see it, he got it out! He made a small incision and squeezed out some blood. He said, "hopefully, the sliver came out with the blood". Well, it must have because it never bothered me again.

I've got a little time before I hit that age, but in calling my broker he said plan N is popular at about $115 per month using a Fl zip code.

NotGolfer 05-03-2012 12:39 PM

Preferred Care Partners...so we didn't have to pay a premium and we get our meds w/o copay. Only thing is you have to stay "in network" and you also pay a copay for specialists etc. This year is an experiment with them for me to see how it goes. I also heard/read that Secure Horizons bought them so want to see what advantage, if any, that will bring.

I'm wondering about this new health-care "Dr. Welby" thing will affect folks and if they'll take all insurances etc.

LittleDog 05-03-2012 03:00 PM

My wife and I don't have any medicare plan other than medicare itself. We also have NJ Blue Cross, Blue Shield as secondary coverage. We've been happy so far with minimal charges by providers.

John

The quote I received was any doctor nationwide (not network), for when we travel
