Now everyone is gonna be so scared again. I hate when that happens.

Midge538 05-03-2012 12:12 PM

Is the long dry period a factor as a cause for sinkholes?

Bill-n-Brillo 05-03-2012 12:12 PM

DANG!! 50' deep, too!

Bill :)

graciegirl 05-03-2012 12:16 PM

I think there are a variety of causes and some have blamed both drought and too much rain. I am suspicious that no one knows for sure.

There are very specific, scientific reasons why sinkholes form. Just Google sinkhole causes and you'll get all kinds of data. Here's a link to one which is more detailed than I can understand.

Sinkhole causes and sinkhole solutions

All I know is they are a possibility in our state and our community, just like hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning strikes, snakes, alligators, etc, etc, etc.

If people are scared, that's good. It means they are informed and researching.

Wow

Can you imagine waking up and finding that outside your house in the morning? I would be on my knees praising GOD that my house was not in the middle of it. Yeah, I know that there could still be a problem under that house but it sure was spared as it now sits!

BritParrothead 05-04-2012 05:33 AM

It is very close to my friend Kellys house!
