Extras Extras

Excluding the cost of the property, how much did your extras add to the cost of the basic home you built?

That is such a difficult question because you need to define what you consider necessary extras. Some people don't feel doing their driveway or garage is necessary. Some people don't feel more landscaping or elaborate is necessary. Some people want plantation shutters and others like basic blinds. You need to define what it is you want to do or feel is necessary for you and people on the site will gladly give you estimates of the costs.

I would consider shutters, enhanced landscaping, painted driveway to be after build projects. I was thinking in home expansions (garage and stretches) flooring (tile), moldings, tub, cabinets, carpeting, appliances, etc. Things you would order with the design team.

Landscaping is probably the most costly add on. It can cost anywhere from a $1,000 to $25,000+ depending on what you want. Our add ons were pretty modest: 6 ceiling fans, basic landscaping with 4 palms added; pullout shelves in the pantry and lower kitchen cabinets, glass shower door, extra shelving in closets and garage, painting interior rooms (hired this done) and window blinds. Total for all of this has been just under $8,000.

This shows why this is a tough question.

When we built in Buttonwood each room already had ceiling fans and pullout shelves. We had a walk in shower so no door.

Oops, sorry just saw your post. Biggest extras for us were a bigger lot and golf cart garage. Added about $35,000 to the price.

OK ; I'll try.
Base house price as shown on website.
Plus 24K for a staggered lot looking between the houses behind us with 114' across the front.
Plus $133K for Summer kitchen, 15X30 pool, expanded cage, crown molding, WP Gold aplliances t/o, 3 car garage expanded 2 feet, tile on the diag., all bronze trim, granite t/o, blinds... less kitchen backsplash and mbr mirrors which we are doing after.
After the 4% discount they were offering on eveything but the pool.
Hope this helps.

On our two and a half car garage on the Seabrook model the cost of kicking it four feet forward was five thousand dollars. Or was it three feet forward..Five? Two? Anyway...It was five K for the garage expansion and it gave us some nice space.

Henry then put up MANY shelves on the walls himself and that allowed us to bring our Christmas stuff and other things that made living here a little nicer. It is hard to get rid of all things familiar and comforting.
