Underpad for laminate floors

I have seen several different flooring companies and they all say they use the best noise reduction under mount pad for their flooring. They all have a different pad. Does anyone know what pad is the best? Or are they really all the same.

They are pretty much the same . get the spec for each one and check it out

I went to Home Depot they have a red/white one there that is the higher priced one.

It is mold resistant, read the labels for more info, but they are not all the same.

3 years in basement works fine.

Had laminate flooring installed recently by East Coast Flooring. They are extremely professional and get many positive remarks from TOTV members. At their showroom in Bellview they have underpadding for laminate floors in 3 different grades. Basically good, better and best. Trust me, after you walk on these 3 samples, you will know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is huge difference. They offer what is supposedly the best underpadding in the industry and the cost difference vs. the lesser grade is minimal. I would contact them and "take a test walk" on these various pads to see the difference for yourself. You'll be astonished. Hope this helps.

I just wonder how their "best" compares to the others "best". If they all have the "best", and they are all different....

YOU are so RIGHT. This part isn't easy.

We have hardwood and it is HARD. Hard on feet and back and achilles tendons. No give to anything much installed over concrete. Sometimes I so miss my northern house.

But only for a minute!

ditto, try East Coast Flooring, regardless of where you buy, buy the best and it makes a great deal of difference

Not to hijack the thread but I love my thick pile carpet. Walking barefoot is a dream come true!!

Understanding Noise reduction. There is the "noise" from foot down on the floor and there is also "Noise" to the first floor if laminate is installed in a second story. Also there is not a pad around that guarantees no "noise" squeaking or other floor noises. We have learned the hard way that noise is very dependent on interpretation. We have the best padding and still have "noise" issues. As much as I love the cleanliness of laminate I miss the soft feel and absolute quiet.

Don't you just love the carpet in your new house......and the same carpet four villages over.....Can't wait to take up that lovely beige carpet to put in some type of wood. We have true hardwood at our home north, so soon as we are there for six months a year it goes.

Same here!

Carpet just holds so much dirt dust.

Carpet may be the obvious way to go in the colder climate in the Northeast or Midwest but here in Florida with the heat and warmth it's hard to understand anything but the coolness of wood/laminate. With all due respect to those who love the "soft feel" of carpet---it's just not reasonably practical in the deep south. Just my opinion. No bashing please.

I LOVE my carpet. Have lived in Florida for many years and in the past had tile and laminate floors which caused me foot and back problems. They are hard on the body. My carpets are very light and bright and CLEAN and when I come home and take off my shoes (everyone must remove shoes before entering, too many pesticides outside) my feel actually thank me for being so kind to them.:clap2: Different strokes for different folks.
