Doctors that make house calls

I imagine most people are laughing wildly at the suggestion that there might be a doctor that makes house calls. However, I will still ask: Any doctors make house calls?

KyWoman 05-22-2012 07:32 AM

Good Luck with that! I can't even get my Mother's Dr. to return a phone call! If there is one that makes house calls, please let us know. Getting Mom to the Dr. is becoming more and more difficult.

Yes, I knew the thread would either make people laugh uncontrollably or really frustrate them in even thinking about it. Doctors are a dying profession. Processors have taken over. MHO. I even had a doctor's office that had you take a ticket...like at a deli counter.

You can go to an immediate care facility if you need something soon. Do you need a suggestion about that?
I have a list of those facilities.

Yes please.

Yes, I am one of those who are laughing. In spite of The Villages stating that they are going to organize medical care around the convenience of the patient, that just will not happen for very normal reasons. What is the more scarce resource; patients or physicians? You normally organize care around the convenience of the more scarce. As many physicians only have their time to sell, they want to make the most efficient use of that scarce resource. Their employers want this as well.

Now having said that, I know of physicians who only work 9-5, five days a week. They do not do “call”, round in Nursing Homes or Hospitals. And they wonder why they are not making any money. Go figure.

Below is the website link plus a link to a Daily Commercial newspaper article about it.

This is a really nice concept and I'd love to see more groups like this. But sadly, I doubt that young doctors could afford to see one patient per hour, having $400,000 in student loans to repay, while raising a family and saving to put his/her kids thru college for about $200,000 each in the future....while also paying for malpractice insurance and all other costs of running the practice, plus saving for retirement in self-retirement investment funds.

I see red ink quickly in that sentence.

WOW-index

Not laughing... I'm new here as well and don't have the answer. I hope everything turned out well with you and yours.
