Love Bugs
 

I sometimes hear about the lovebugs in Florida and how annoying they can be. We were in Florida last May of 2011 and drove from The Villages to Cape Canaveral. The lovebugs were hitting our windshield like snow coming down. We did not have water in our windshield wiper in our rented car and our windshield was getting pretty white. We cleaned it all off when we reach our destination.

What is your observation of the lovebugs in the Villages? I noticed a few in the pool, but not at my preview home that I was staying in.

Love bugs come twice a year - in early May and in September. You will see them a lot at the pools and at the entrances to golf cart tunnels. They will get sqashed on your car grill and windshield and the acid in their body can eat the paint so wash it off right away.

They are a nuisance but do not harm anything. Just think if they ate plants or stung people! Now, that would be bad. They are around for about 3 weeks and then leave for about 6 months.
