Bermuda with Zoysia??

I'm experiencing Bermuda grass runners in my zoysia, and are they strong to pull out. It seems like the bermuda takes over the zoysia and is more hardy. The only way to get it out is to dig it out. There is a chemical called "Ornamec" that kills Bermuda, while it doesn't harm other grasses. I tried it for a while, but didn't have good luck. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Apparently, hard to fix?? Runners are strong!:shrug:

I am disgusted with the Bermuda grass in my Zoysia lawn. The lawn is about 1 1/2 yrs old. At about 1/2 year, I coaxed the builder's belligerent landscaper to re-sod a portion that was really bad. By the end of the year the Bermuda grass was back, and he refused to do any more replacement. He recommended Zoysia Green Lawn Service because they spot treat with Fusilade weed killer. I switched in February. I can see the spot treatments because of the dark green dye in the spray. Well, as of today, those portions of the lawn that were treated are completely infested with Bermuda grass.

After today's rain, I spent an hour on my knees trying to pull the runners up with the roots. The affected areas have a web of runners running in all directions through the grass. Both ends of the runners are rooted, and they just break off at the surface. It's a mess.

I don't know who Jason is, but I'll try to get him over to look at the situation.

Anyone got a picture of what the Bermuda looks like? I was under the mis conception that zoyzia took over everything and anything.

Yes, I also was under the mis conception that zoysia took over Bermuda. I have the same problem. Bogieshooter above gave a good web site on how to control it or try to kill it. Check it out. I really think its a losing battle. I notice my neighbors have it in their lawn also.

I have Bermuda grass all over my front lawn (St. Augustine) for over a year now and was told nothing could be done to get rid of it. It will just grow back. I decided no use in getting upset about it and as long as it is green what the heck, it is just a lawn. Going to go now and enjoy the villages life style.

Are you sure it is Bermuda? My zoysia lawn has torpedo grass in it. This grass looks somewhat like Bermuda in that is spreads horizontally by runners. But it is more coarse than Bermuda, almost like St. Augustine. I was told that this grass commonly hitches a ride in the zoysia sod and will make itself apparent months after the sod is laid. I have tried all sorts of controls and nothing I can buy helps. Zoysia Green has tried some controls, but it is still there.

I've adopted the same philosophy as posted above. Since it's green, mow it.

Here is a picture I just took of the torpedo grass in my zoysia. The torpedo grass is the coarser grass in the center with the finer blades of zoysia around.

Left a message at the office. He is supposed to call me when he's back in town on Monday.

I'm positive it's Bermuda. Had sample looked at, to be sure.

I have Zoysia,, and in the back yard I got St. Augustine patch with runners all over I keep pulling out.
In the front yard I have I Believe either Torpedo or Bermuda growing in big patches... Can not get rid of it.. Every year seems to be getting bigger. Was told by True Green best way is to replant. I just keep it mowed...
Such a pain in the rear.......
