Attic storage lift
Always looking for ways to better use my attic space. I am afraid of falling when I carry a large box up the ladder. Does anyone have any experience with any kind of lift mechanism which one can load and raise to attic? Looking for ideas.

Hi Big Guy!
I googled and found a few references to attic lifts. Everything from home-built to store-bought. The ones for sale seem to cost over $1,000. You might check out Car Guy Garage: Attic Lift. Sounds like an interesting project. Good luck! |
Be real careful how much weight you put in the attic space if you don't have attic trusses specified in your home. The regular trusses are not designed to hold much weight.

My husband uses a rope and ties it around the box and I stand at the bottom to guide boxes to the attic. These are light weight items.

Good info PandG.

A block and tackle system might work. See HowStuffWorks "How a Block and Tackle Works"

The attic lift seems like a great idea. The main problem is how will you load the lift and unload the lift? You have to be in the garage to load it, but in the attic to unload it. Gonna take 2 people to get your "stuff" up there. I guess you could ride up in on the lift, but that would cut down on the amount of "stuff" per trip.
