Does anyone near Savannah Ctr. use Century Link Internet?
 

We just bought a house in Alhambra and need to get internet service. I called CenturyLink because we are going to be getting Direct TV and they could provide both for us. The only problem is the speed of their DSL is only 1.5 MB in our Village (we are right in the middle of their high speed areas). Do any of you in this area use CenturyLinks 1.5 MB service and how has it been for you? It seems to me this would be rather slow. Our only other alternative is Comcast and their pricing was outrageous.

Wish I could bring my ATT Uverse with me from Cleveland! Any help would be appreciated.

Did you have any problems with the download speed at 1.5? I spoke with one of the reps. from the Rolling Acres store today and he said the only speed available was 1.5. Guess I need to call back tomorrow. Thanks!

I also have 3.0 mpb download with Century Link and am in your general area.

I have the 1.5 mb service, for cost reasons right now. For me, it's just adequate, but I can access everything that I need. I don't do movie streaming. I have been spoiled by the 20 mb cable internet at my other place. However, I expect that 20 is overkill for my needs. Over time, I'll probably want to upgrade to the 3.0 mb service. If you have simple needs for email and web browning, then go with the 1.5 and see if it is enough.

Not to hijack this thread, but I regularly go to Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test to verify my download speeds. I recommend that, so you know that you're getting what you pay for.

Years ago, I had AT&T DSL at the condo. I was paying for 3.0 mb and getting 3.0 download speed. When I wanted more speed, I upgraded the plan to the 10 mb level, and started paying for the higher rate. However, the service continued to deliver 3.0 mb speed. Finally I reported the problem, and AT&T sent a technician out to troubleshoot the reason. His finding was that the circuits in my neighborhood and 35 year old building could not support higher throughput. AT&T then reduced my bill accordingly, but I soon switched to Comcast cable internet at the 20 mb level.

So it pays to know what you are really getting in the home, not just the theoretical speed.

We also have been spoiled with our 18 mb fiber optics in our home in Cleveland. For now, basic surfing and email is all we need. Thanks for the reply.

I have centurylink dsl in Santiago and have no issues with it. Of course I don't do anything sophisticated like stream movies or whatever. For my everyday use it is fine for the price.

High DL speed (10 meg) only helps if you have a lot of peeps using your connection.
The upload speed of most of the internet sites is only what their severs can UL which limits your access to their sites (busy sites)So start low if it's not fast enough bump it up.

Thanks all for your opinions. For now we went with CenturyLink and we will see what happens. I did ask if 3.0 is available and he told me not at our house. I mentioned other people in our area upgraded to it and he told me my next door neighbor could have 3.0 and it was still possible we could not. Technology, go figure!
