affordable care act aka Obamacare

I didn't post this under political discussion since it deals with our health care. I have heard so much about the affordable care act. The Supreme Court might be revealing its decision today. I went to a packed room today for the Civil Discourse Club presentation of what the affordable care act is and is not. The presentation answered many of my questions. If you are interested, information is posted on the Civil Discourse Club's Facebook page.

One thing that was brought up was the rampant Medicare fraud in FL. One woman went to a dr. in TV one time. When she looked at the explanation of benefits page, this doctor billed Medicare for 3 visits, and thousands of dollars. She contacted the Medicare fraud line. I will look more carefully at my benefits page. This fraud costs all of us.

How can you be surprised by Medicare fraud in FL when we have a governor who was CEO of a company that committed the largest Medicare fraud in US history?

And you think obama care is going to correct that. Our government?

No, hopefully the voters will correct the poor selection of governor.

The government's cost-effective" approach to finding fraud.....

And stimulates "job creation":

"WASHINGTON -- An audit program designed to detect Medicaid fraud cost about five times as much to administer as the amount of fraud it detected, a report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found.

Medicaid has spent about $102 million in auditing costs since 2008, but has identified less than $20 million in over-payments, GAO investigators found.

"In many ways, these programs resemble a funnel through which significant federal and state resources are being poured in and limited results are trickling out," Ann Maxwell, a regional inspector general for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), said in prepared testimony delivered during a congressional hearing this past week.

Up until 2005, states were in charge of rooting out fraud in their Medicaid programs. However, a federal law that year created the Medicaid Integrity Group, and the federal government began hiring contractors to conduct Medicaid audits.

The GAO report found that the audits rarely uncovered fraud, especially when they used data from the Medicaid Statistical Information System (MSIS), which lacks crucial information, such as provider names. Without a healthcare provider's name, it is difficult to target fraud investigations....."

This is NOT to say that fraud should not be investigated and stamped out. People do need to consider however, how the federal government handles money.....and incentivizes consumer and voter behavior.

Still living in VA, I have no clue even who the Florida Governor is. However I do recently recall he wanted to stop illegal voters from voting, (great idea) unemployment has dropped since he took office by 25% (Down 2.3% from 9.7%) and you have a state budget surplus. I don't even know his political party, but he was elected by a majority of the voter and his results and ideas look good to me. So guess when I do get there, I will vote for him as well.

Please tell me where to look to confirm this surplus?

Gov Richard Scott took office in Jan 2011, so he's got a way to go yet.

What is really interesting , to me anyway, is that much of Obamacare doesn't take effect until 2014, when he could potentially be out of office.

From what I read in today's newspaper, a Supreme Court decision is imminent.
