No Bird Feeders

When we came to The Villages to buy our house, we drove all around The Villages. I saw only a couple of houses that had bird feeders in the yard. Is there some reason people do not put out bird feeders?

Hummers

What about Hummingbird feeders? Do they have hummers in Florida?

yes you can get hummingbirds if you put out feeders and look again as many many birders have feeders out

My feeders are in the backyard so they're not visible unless you are on my lanai or in my yard or house. We have many birds but can't seem to attract hummingbirds. We've had the feeders out for 3 years with no success in atrracting hummers or orioles.

I have a bird feeder and have had it for almost five years. Initially it only attracted doves. Now I am thrilled I am seeing blue jays, cardinals and small song birds. I have never seen a rat or a snake on our property. I keep the feeder very clean. I use to have a humingbird feeder and never a hummingbird. Once in awhile I see hummingbirds at our colorful plants and flowers. I love feeding and watching birds. Every spring we have doves that nest in our palms and have little ones.

Have you tried growing any bee balm? It is a great attractant for the hummers.

most bird feeders are in the back yard so you would not see them from the street

Hummingbirds are not a year-round resident in this area. They will pass through in the spring and fall during migration but most leave for the remainder of the year.

My absolute favorite birds are the sandhill cranes. Caution on getting them too used to your yard for food, though, as they are smart birds and sometimes have been known to peck holes in your screen if the food is not out for them in the morning.

No problem; simple solution! Just put your bird feeders inside your lanai or birdcage! :evil6:
