Cancelling Tee Times when the Weather is uncooperative
 

Hello Fellow Villagers!!

I am very new to golf and getting familiar with the on-line tee time bookings.

I am sure that this topic was discussed in the past, so let me apologize if we are re-hashing the same subject!!

My question is -- What is the proceedure if you have a scheduled golf tee time and the weather is just plane nasty ( like today ) and you wish to cancel or not show up because you are too busy building an ark to save your family from peril?

Do you call the starter shack?
Do you show up for the tee time to check in and then leave?
Is there a general phone number to call or web site to go to?

I always call the course I am playing if I am cancelling on the day of play, although I doubt you MUST on a horrible day where the committee deems it a one point cancellation day, I do anyway.

I just show up at the course and then decide. Can't tell you the number of times I played when it looked like I would not play.

As a courtesy I call the course. There have been times when it is raining where I live and not raining where I am scheduled to play. Go figure.

Yep, that happens quite a bit. One day we were scheduled for 18 at Lopez but after nine, it started pouring. They gave us a rain check for the back nine. Drove home-- about a mile or so away-- and no rain. So we drove over to Glenview and the skies were clear. They were surprised to hear from us that it was raining at Lopez. Played nine more at Glenview and it never even drizzled.

So yes, call the course.

On a day like today, 100% rain everywhere.... I don't bother to call the starter shack. It's probably a no point day.

On another day where conditions at the course or home are questionable, I will call the starter to cancel.

I was leaning on just calling the starter shack as a courtesy to cancel due to weather!

Now back to building the Ark :)

Was supposed to play Palmer yesterday pm but none of us wanted to so I called and canceled. They told me the course was open but most people were calling to cancel. Also told me that three or four groups did go out to play. Right, wind, rain and tornado watch, I think I will be better off at home!

You can go to golfthevillages.com and find a Weather Event link that tells you which courses are going to be closed today and tomorrow due to inclement weather.

The best thing I have found to do is to call the tee time office at 750-4558 if the weather is bad. They know if there are any cancelled courses. I did so today. We have a tee time for Hawkes Bay tomorrow and I was told it is one of 7 which are closed. Usually, even if you believe the weather is too bad to play, not like it has been this week, if you check in and then leave you will only get a point. If you call and cancel you get 2 points. And if you just don't show up I believe you get 3 points. In any case, the points roll off seven days after you have accumulated that point or points.

I was told it was other 1 point or two points and that no points DNA? Guess the starters better get their stories straight

Points are made up of 1 reservation point + a cancellation penalty.

SO when you cancel you see the following points:

0 points: Course is closed during your tee time, even a reservation point is not assigned
1 point: Course is open but committee deems day very uncomfortable or dangerous, e.g., 48 degree F and windy or lightning
2 points: Cancel your tee time prior to the day of play
3 points: Cancel your tee time day of play

I hope folks would not check in and leave to save 2 points (maybe I misunderstood). You are taking up a tee time which to put it kindly is 'bad form'.
