Whatever happened to the good old Dark Ages?

Guest 07-01-2012 02:03 PM

I think your heart is in the right place here, if I understand what you're saying in your very short OP.

But your head should tell you that although our government going back 150 years is nice to think about in an originalist connotation in light of the latest round of assaults on our Constitution, it also brings us back before the end of slavery and the emancipation of women, etc.

I have no problem with our government's relationship with religious belief returning to what it was in that long ago age. Maybe if I delve more into it, I may, but I don't think so offhand.

Still, I think I understand where you're coming from, and if I'm correct, I feel your frustration.

I feel your pain.

150 or more years ago.

Dred Scott decision? John Brown? Manifest Destiny? Sand Creek Massacre? Massacres of Mormons or by Mormons?

Guest 07-01-2012 06:52 PM

DDoug: I be happy if we could go back just three and half years before we enter the second Dark Ages period:pepper2:

I have no trouble living in the present - I am thriving.

Anyone wishing to go back to 1862 has serious issues. Obviously, the real world is too much for them to cope with.

Like I've always said. If you want to know what the liberals are up to, just look at what they are accusing their opponents of doing, and there's your answer.

The disrespectful posts on this thread have all come from the left.

and there you are.

Attempting to ascertain what doug is trying to say is tricky, at best. However, if living a life of 150 years ago is one's desire, I have a suggestion. We live about 15 miles from an old order Amish community. My wife and I have good friends in that community, and they are wonderful people who seem extremely happy with their lives. They are apolitical, and live a life that would have been common about 150 years ago. As far as I know, one could join the sect, if they are willing to abide by all the rules, and live a Godly life.

That's true if what he wanted was a change to a more spartan life, but I think what he really meant is he'd like a return to traditional values of God and Country.

Living without modern comforts? I don't think so.

We're really just all guessing at the real meaning of the OP. It was such a short post and I hoped he would elaborate after all our surmising and discussion about it.

You might very well be closer to the target than I.
