The Salt Room
I just had my first experience at The Salt Room, which opened a few weeks ago on Hwy 441 next door to Tuesday Morning and Kohl's. Salt rooms are natural treatments for many types of respiratory ailments, such as allergies, asthma, sinus infections, cough, COPD etc. I've had a chronic cough for several years, and have been to many doctors; ENT, Allergist, Pulmonary, and no one has been able to help. In desperation, I thought maybe the Salt Room would help. After one session, my cough has greatly improved, and I'm a convert! Salt acts as an anti-inflammatory which loosens congestion and enables a person to breathe easier. It was also very relaxing and enjoyable. I will be going back for a few more treatments to see if my cough totally goes away! Their phone is 352 750-9909. If any of you reading this try the Salt Room, please tell them Mrs. Stegemeier referred you.

I've been waiting for a review. Thank you! I also wonder about the effect of all that salt on those on a low-sodium diet. If anyone knows, please reply.

Seems to me you'd be ingesting salt if it was doing any good! Salt is salt whether you eat it or absorb it! I dunno! Just saying ......
|
I am kinda sceptical.

1) Do you sit in a salt water solution? 2) Do you eat potato chips and other salty snacks? 3) Do they sprinkle salt over your head like fairy dust? It's really strange that you should say that salt acts as an anti-inflammatory because if you consume a lot of salt it can cause chronic inflammation. Google-search the following: "Does eating salt cause inflammation?" |
Sounds like it would be great. I have terrible sinus allergies and use nasal irrigation with a salt water solution to treat it. Neti pots have been around for centuries. The salt water definitely reduces inflammation and clears out the sinus. I use a product called Nasaline. Just make sure the water is clean, no tap water. I use distilled water.

You sit in a salt room in an ant-gravity chair...walls, floor and ceiling are salt. The lighting is low and there is soft music. A compressor pumps in pharmaceutical grade salt into the room while you just inhale normally for 45 minutes. That"s all I know, but it did help me.

Glad it helped! My husband has the same kind of nasal distress but he also has high blood pressure and is on sodium restriction. Common sense tells me he probably should not be inhaling salt but I cannot find the answer to this by Googling! Guess it will come up at some point.

Does your insurance cover this? If not, how much did your session cost and when do you have to return to have another treatment? |
If you go to Dr Oz website you will see he recommends inhaling himalayan salt for copd and asthma, sinus problems. I am thinking that a heart surgeon that is known world wide, would not recommend something that would raise your sodium levels, swimming on a daily basis in the ocean doesn't have that effect, I use a salt inhaler everyday during the winter and it about the only thing that works

The question is: how much salt are we talking about? Perhaps it's not enough to do any harm and yet provides some relief. Is it supervised by a doctor? Is it just for the purpose of short term relief? In order for The Salt Room to be doing what they do, it must be approved by the FDA. Although, I suppose they could do it without FDA approval as long as they don't make any health promises. |
I did it. The 1st 'session' is $20 (maybe only for July??). You sit in the room,
soft music is playing & salt/air is being pumped in. You can faintly taste it on your lips. My friend fell asleep & I might have also but it was SO RELAXING that when the door was opened I felt I had had a nice rest. I have bad sinus/allergies & I did feel a difference but I do think I will have to go a time or 2 more...but I will do it. I try alot of alternative methods before 'drs/pills'. the Salt Room is in other areas of the country. They have massages & other treatments at the Salt Room also. I hope its the answer to my problems. |
