Recurring Spots on New Carpet
Purchased home six months ago; since then we have noticed dark spots appear in the living room carpet for no apparent reason. Called TV warrenty, sent someone out, their conclusion is that the spots are caused by our small dog. This is not so; spots are too big and our dog is house-trained.
We purchased a "Bissel Green Machine" carpet machine. Exact spots came back. We had a carpet steam cleaning firm do his thing yesterday; we will see what happens. The cleaning tech stated the following after performing a "smell test" ; "this is not caused by your pet, rather by the company that installed your carpets not making certain the slab was cleaned and wet mopped prior ti installing your pad and carpet. You can expect the spots to come back. I have observed similar spots in numerous homes in this area; they always comeback and will continjue doing so until the slab is cleaned, etc.." He went on to say that a group of homeowners had gotten together to group protest TV on this issue. Has anyone had a similar occurance; where can I join in this protest and cause TV to do the right thing and replace the pad/carpet, etc.. |
So it seems to be only in one area of TV? Oh my, I sure hope you got the professionals opinion on paper. Then take that to TV and also join with the folks that are confronting the builders/TV. What area is it? Good luck.

We had the same problem and after cleaning came back. I removed the carpet and replaced with laminate. When I took the carpet up it was covered with stains on the bottom and appeared to have been used carpet when it was installed.

Interesting
I have the same problem. My home is located in St. James. There is a spot on the carpet that originally appeared approx. a month after we purchased our (new) home. Thought originally it may have been caused by our Chihuahua although questioned that as I would have noticed (felt) where it is located. My Chihuahua has had an accident on another part of the carpet and that I removed with no problem. This one is different. It is also growing in diameter. I first used club soda, then a carpet cleaner I had from a professional cleaner, then Spot-shot which has actually worked the best. After I spray it, you won't see it for about a month or more but then it comes back. I figured I will most likely replace the carpet in a few years so why get crazy over it but truth be told, it does drive me a little crazy when I start to see it again.
And...let me add, when our home was being built, we came in just about every night and cleaned up from the workers. Our neighbors used to laugh at us as we brought all our cleaning items including my husbands blower. So we know the concrete floor was clean. (Okay, so now you all know we have OCD) |
We have the same problem. We don't have any pets. It has been an annoyance to me since we moved in. I couldn't understand why we had these dark spots as we didn't spill anything. We also have a few areas that have a blue tinge to them.

Call warranty AGAIN if you believe it is defective carpet. They will fix it if it is defective carpet. The carpet people are subs who will not report back to warranty so call them again. Make a copy of this thread and email it to them showing others in the same area are having the same problem.
For any thing else on a carpet buy Spot Shot at the grocery. Spray it on until saturated and cover the sprayed wet area with old towels and walk on them. The towels will absorb the stain. Spot shot will take up almost any stain from carpet.. |
Call Warranty Advice
Gracie, as stated in original post; did call warranty; carpet guy used by TV said we spilled something or it was our pet, which we knew did not occur; warranty refused to do anything. Carpet cleaning guy said is was due to poorly cleaned slab and that the stain, which he has seen many such stains in the St James area came from this and will continue to come back until carpet and pad is taken out, slab cleaned and carpet replaced.
I understand your doubt, thanks for you personal opinion, but I think I'l go with the opinion of the professional carpet cleaner. |
Oh great! We are closing on our CYV in 2 weeks .... St. James area. We have 2 dogs that are also house broken, youngest is 3 yrs old, and our 6 yr old carpets here have no stains.
We 1st saw "our" house in December, and when we signed for it 3 weeks ago, the carpets still looked pristine. Soooo, maybe we won't have the St. James curse on our carpets! Don |

Sure Hope Not!

Don, sure hope you and Kazie don't experience the same. Wonder if a moisture barrier is used under the padding. It's been a while since we've had carpet installed, and I just don't remember. Good luck to you all with this problem! |
Sounds to me like a mold problem. Mold is common in a hot, humid environment and is something that can cause numerous conditions in a person.
Ask that the carpet and walls be tested for mold. We had that as an inserted clause in the contract when we purchased our resale house in The Villages. No mold was found. |

using a black light will tell you if the pet is the problem and if not i think i would have a carpet guy pull the carpet up and see whats under it
