Fluorescnt Tubes

Just changed 2 fluorescnt tubes, after 3 years. What do I do with the old ones? Will the trash guy take them?

Home Depot stores around here have a box just in side the front entrance that you can put them in. Ask customer service if you don't see one.

Put them at the end of the driveway with a sign that says "FREE" someone will pick them up.

They should not go out with the trash. You can take them to Home Depot, there you can recycle fluorescent bulbs. Since the ones you have are much larger than the container there for collection, call to verify they'll take them. Number is 352-751-7600.

If Home Depot doesn't take the tubes, check Earth911

Note that it goes by which county you live in.

Because of the mercury in Fluorescent and cfl (compact fluorescent) bulbs they must be "recycled" rather than just disposed off.

This wasn't a problem with incandescent bulbs before Congress made them illegal.

Fl bulbs however are 4 times as efficient as incandescent.

Some of the new T-8 tubes which are 4 foot and 32 watt, they're thinner, have green ends on them have very minimun mercury and can be disposed of. They're called Alto by Phillips. But if Home depot accepts them, that sounds like a winner.

I found that Home Depot no longer takes fluorescent tubes, only the spirals. I called the trash pickup number, and was told to wrap them in newspaper and leave them out on recyclables day.
