How to put mail on "Hold"
So how do you inform the postal service that you want to hold your mail while away for a few days? We would normally go to a post office and fill out a card, but where do we get a card here? One of those perplexing little things about having central mail boxes instead of direct home delivery. Thanks!

You can go or call Lady Lake PO and tell them you will be away. If it is only for a few days, your box may be able to pile up which is the easiest. Perhaps a neighbour could pick it up for you if it is just for a short time if you get lots of mail each day.

Mail Hold
You should be able to go to the US Post Office web site. I put a link below. At the top of the website go to "Manage Mail."
In the drop down box choose "Hold Mail." You can put your start and end dates in and they will begin to hold your mail on the dates you choose. They will begin to redeliver the held mail on the date you want to start delivery again. https://www.usps.com/ |

Thanks for the link! Knew you could do some things with the PO on line, but didn't realize this was an option.

Check where you pick up the mail. Ours in Pennecamp has cards on the back side of the building in a holder attached to the door that you fill out and place in your mail box informing the workers inside that you will be gone for a while and for them to hold it for you.

We get stop our mail cards at the mail hut. They are in a basket attached to the mail hut door. Don't need to call the post office.

I have gotten to know the person who handles our mail at the local postal station.( Her name is Cindy.) Any time I need a card, I just go up to the postal station while she is delivering the mail, knock on the door. She usually keeps a few inside the hut, but if she doesn't have any, she always puts one in my box the next day. She's very pleasant and enjoys talking to all the neighbors as they pick up their mail.

Edit: Sorry. I see this was already posted. That's what happens when I don't read the whole thread before commenting! I guess I just got excited that I had information to actually help someone! LOL! |

Just fill out a piece of paper stating when I'll be gone and when I'll be back and lay it in my mail box so it can be read from the inside. Nothing easier! Never had any problems.

USPS will hold mail for 30 days max. If a longer time is needed you have to have it batched up weekly and forwarded to a temporary address - for a fee.

i have found that using the usps website takes close to 10 days before it is implemented! when we will be gone for just a few days we fill out the card and leave it in our villages mailbox for our mail lady. there is a postal substation behind el rancherito restaurant on 441/27 - or probably can get one from the wagon in front of sweet bay, too.

The USPS website lets you put mail on hold the next day.
Some other functions (changes to forwarding, etc) do require nearly a week to implement. . |
