Garmin North America Map Update Released

For those of you that have a Garmin GPS and have the lifetime map updates the latest release 2013.20 is now available for downloading from the Garmin site. The files have been on the servers for a few days and they have now been released to the general public.

If you have a Garmin model that has Junction View the large, full screen file is also available for download. Here is the link for the larger JV file.

http://download.garmin.com/support/2.../D3060070A.JCV

Please note that the downloads do take some time as a lot of people are doing their updates.

Is there a way I could purchase a "last" update? Mine is years old and anything better than 2003 would be an improvement. OK I'm cheap! :)

Thank you.... This will come in handy for our move down to TV

Everything north of 466a was covered in the last couple releases.

The area south of 466a started showing in the last release. One thing to remember that TV builds roads faster than the mapping company can get them recorded and into their maps.

An easy way to check is to go to MapQuest.com and see if the streets are shown there. Both MapQuest and Garmin buy their maps from a company called Navteq. Once you see a new area there it will be in the next Garmin release. It always shows up on MapQuest first.

Had my car serviced today and was told to update my GPS in the vehicle would cost $399. Holy cow - what is that all about???

Depending on what model GPS you have there might be a problem. Older units did not have the memory capacity of the newer units and the files are getting larger and larger. If you are able to add an SD memory card to your unit you will be okay.

You might be better off getting a new unit that comes with the lifetime maps update and that can be updated 4 times a year.

Something else to look at is Walmart. I think this may be online shopping only but they have refurb 3790LMT for $159.98 which is a great deal. Only thing is that it may be a temporary thing and you have to act fast.

That is the price one pays for having one of the built in factory units. You are at the mercy of the vehicle manufacturer. Not a wise investment in my opinion but the dealer will not tell you that.

Try a Google search on GPS update for the make and model of vehicle and see what you can come up with.

Virtual Geezer correct about being at the mercy of the mfgr if you have a factory nav. Depending on your make of car, if you do some research and shop around you can probably find an update for less than that dealer quoted you.

I had the same situation with my car and was able to save about $100 on an update.

Thank you, Geezer. It was kind of you to take the time to post. I'll download the update.

Thank you. Maybe this time I will be able to find my way around.
