Here we come ready or not!

We too are moving to TV and are excited, but just spent the entire day packing our truck and we are exhausted. Close on our house in Pensacola tomorrow, head to Tallahassee to spend the weekend at our daughters and then on to TV, right into the storm and heavy rain in order to close Tuesday on our house in the Village of St. Charles. We are hoping to make lots of friends, stay very active and have a ball. We are in our 50's and personally I have shed many tears because I am leaving my "baby" behind--he is 21 but all the same I am an empty nesting Mom (my husband thinks I am a little silly) I am wondering if any other mom's have had the same hard time? Can't wait to connect with everyone-------see ya soon! Oh and by the way, if we ever get settled in we are thinking of pet sitting and maybe a little house cleaning too---let us know if it's needed (we have great experience)!!!

:welcome: to the TOTV forum. You're not too far from me and still won't be once I get to TV!

Welcome! Your timing is great. The latest track for Isaac has it coming ashore near Pensacola...which should mean less impact for us. Enjoy the ride!

How exciting.........to be swept into THE VILLAGES on a potential hurricane. Stay safe and best of luck.

As far as your 21 year old son, he will be just fine.....hopefully.
We had the "empty nest" when our children turned 17 and went "away" to live at their universities for four years.........then moved to the big city, then back to the universities for further degrees..........so to me, 21, is a good age to leave him to explore on his own. We were 20 when we left home/married...etc.

Our son was 22 when he graduated college and moved across the country on his own to live out west.......our daughter, ditto, moved to Maine and then Boston at age 22...............they all supported themselves. He will be just fine. I agree with your husband.

We moms would like to keep them close FOREVER, but it's the healthiest thing for THEM to give them wings............

Now, you enjoy your new lifestyle.........and do not worry.

Congrats on your impending move.

A poem for you:

If you love someone, set it free,

If it comes back, it was meant to be.

So true.......and believe it or not, if you give them wings to fly, they do return to visit.........and then they bring all of their friends home and finally their newest love and then the grandchildren.......so as said above, "If you love someone, set it free".

I agree. It is hard to leave THEM. Senior is right. Our generation launched earlier and it was probably better for us to do so. He will be fine. It is YOUR turn.

Welcome to the nicest place I have ever lived.

Ya lucky stiff! I have to wait until next Summer to make the jump into the big pond and become a FROG.

I also feel the same way about leaving our children and grandchildren. But when my younger son was asked how he felt about our impending move, he replied that he felt "sad for him, but happy for us!" Then I knew that we were definitely doing the right thing because he understands that it is now "time for us"!

Another welcome to TOTV. Travel safely and happy settling in to your new home. :welcome:

Thank you everyone for your replies, it means so much to know we are headed in the right direction for "ourselves" and that our children will be just fine. With that said we are right now waiting patiently for our closing on Tuesday----so excited! Hope the storm passes quickly so we can get moved in and on with life, not liking having everything packed in a truck and realizing that some item we really need is not accessible !!!!!
