closing on our home during Isaac

We are closing on our new home in Fernandina later this week. I am flying, hubby would like to try the driving. We are coming from Northern VA. The good news is that the airline changed my flight for no charge, hotel rates and car rental is now cheaper than when I first made arrangements. So as long as we arrive safely and Isaac does not cause damage - I hope we can see it as good luck to close in FL during a hurricane?

Sara-know all will be well and you and Dennis will be enjoying your new home and taking it all in! Pictures are helpful, but not the same, no? Enjoy your new vacation home and I will be there in Sept with much excitement to meet up and see your new place! Have a wonderful time and I wish you much luck!

The drive

Is about 15 hours, I'm sure you know. Have you thought about the auto train? I took the train when I moved from PA.
Will look forward to seeing you.
Don't worry too much, it's only supposed to be a cat 1 and it's anyone's guess which direction it will take. Not a biggie, just some rain and wind.

Insurance

Make sure you have your homeowners insurance all set because many companies stop writing policies temporarily when a hurricane is approaching. I closed on my Florida house in mid-September 2004 - 2 hurricanes had gone by, and two were on the way. Only Citizens was willing to write insurance for the closing, and I switched to a cheaper company later. Being from the north, I had no idea that would happen!

Good luck with your closing and safe travels to you and your husband. You must be very excited!

I wouldn't worry too much about all the hype now in play about a supposed hurricane for the State of Florida. All of your plans will go fine. Might have a nominal amount of rain and barely enough wind to get excited about. So don't go changing all of your plans for something that will turn out to be nothing. Good luck on your move.

I just cannot believe that a mere hurricane could slow down the great Morse bunch. They came, they built, they'll close.

It is all good.;)

AND...I mean that in the most sincere way. I think the Morses et al are absolutely great.

I have heard if you know the style of home you want to build you can pick out fixtures, ect. By going to model homes with your sales rep. Then bypass your design date. Does anyone know if this is true?

Of course it's good luck! The proof is how excited you will be.

As I recall you teach Hebrew (sorry for the English spelling)...
"A blessing on your house, Mazel Tov, Mazel Tov." :wine:

Quirky is correct. Be sure that your homeowners insurance will be issued. Most companies suspend issuance of policies when hurricanes are buzzing around Florida. You may have to delay closing.
I always insist with friends I help buy in TV that their offer includes a clause that the closing will be delayed as needed if their obtained policy is "suspended in issuance" at the time of scheduled closing and a back-out clause to cancel the deal if the property sustains significant weather and/or other damage prior to closing.

I hope you had your insurance in order before now :) We closed during a hurricane in NC. Luckily it was already in place because companies don't tend to write insurance policies when there is something out there :) As for damage...you're more than likely not going to have any. Knock on wood....just blustery winds and rain from the sounds of it. Had worse in sustained winds in KS ;)

Well doesnt the builder/villages have to make any and all repairs if it happens before closing? I would assume. But then you know what assumption gets you :)

Car Insurance is difficult to get as well when a storm is approaching..
Good Luck with your closing and travels down to TV's.
