Ants ?

Woke up this morning to a few ants in the kitchen... What is the best way to get rid of them, safely... and for sure? Anyone? :O) Thanks in advance! :O)

When it rains a lot, usually that's when the ants try to find a place that is dry. Call your pest guy. They will take care of it immediately and usually by spraying the perimeter of your home, and placing some ant traps that are much more effective than the traps available in stores.. It is part of the yearly "deal". In this tropical paradise, a contract with a pest control business is extremely important.

OH NO...If you have ants, Jane will have uncles. She is arriving here soon. Hope all is well at her house. She has had more than her share of "critters" and hasn't even really taken permanent residence.:undecided:

We have been bothered by ants during our entire 4 years here. They come in the house through little tiny nooks and crannies near doors in the laundry room, kitchen, bathrooms and near the front door. We tried spraying but as soon as we'd drop a crumb on the floor they'd be back. You can try finding their entry point and spray and then seal it with caulking, but if they are persistant you might need to hire Massy or a similar company to spray inside and out about every 3 months.

There is a product the outside package says, "Combat". It contains "fipronil" in it.

Very effective for ridding oneself of ants. Probably sold in Publix as it is sold in Stop and Shop in the the Northeast.

They will be gone in a few days.

We have been in our home for a little over a year and a half and have only had two isolated instances in different locations of having small ants. We called Masseys and they applied a dab of something that came in a tube, kind of like tooth paste. (No, the ants didn't die from brushing their tiny little teeth)

In about 24 hours there were no signs of the ants and they didn't return.

BTW, If you go the service route and you have cats or dogs, keep them safe by reminding the service that they need to use a pet friendly treatment. If you don't, make sure whatever product you use is safe for pets.

I found a product called Terro absolutely eliminated our problem. We kept getting them every summer, and this was the only product that eliminated them, along with their nest. I use the outdoor traps which come six to a pack. I put them out in the early spring, and have not seen another ant. I purchased them at Walmart. Below is the link.

Ant Problem? Terro = Ant Control Solutions

2 more thoughts...

We use something that plugs into an outlet...it has no insecticide in it....can be found under as seeen on TV ie Walgreens...made by Riddex, and it has taken care of any ants and spiders...it has an electric current...of course we up north though.

Also I remember a Southern gal talking about a homemade mixture that included Borax in it that is an old time remedy that is kept say under a sink that bugs take home to the nest and it kills them...

Spray along the outside foundation of your home with a bug barrier product. That will keep them out. You need to do this at the recommended intervals to prevent them from establishing a nest inside the barrier.

DebiR 08-29-2012 10:38 AM

Crest won't do it, then ? (she says grinning)
Terro... Thanks!!

goodgrief 08-29-2012 01:03 PM

We use raid bug barrier around the outside of the house and around entry points. Never ever have had problems with ants. Only isolated time was when we were in wisconsin and it got so hot that summer we had one trail come in the front door right up into the candy dish with M&M's. LOL. So much for those...sprayed and never saw them again :)
