Sessions closed unexpectedly

Lately when going into web sites my computer keeps closing all internet programs. When you go back into IE it asks if you want to restore your old session or go to home page. If you restore sessions it will work for a short time but then will do it again. I have restarted the computer and some times it works then other times is does the same thing. Could it by my router which is a D Link about 4 yrs old or something with Comcast and there modem. Any suggestions on how to fix

Have you cleaned the computer recently?

Bjoyce, I have seen laptops do this when your laptop battery is at the end of its life, even though the laptop is plugged into a outlet. I also agree with cleaning the computer. Good luck

Yes I have cleaned it. If I remove the battery and just use the plug would that possible work.

Do you get any kind of error message? When this happens to me I get a message that Internet Explorer has quit working. That usually leads me to the site that caused the problem - ie the last one I was at.

FYI: Unless you definitely need those sessions again, it is better to not restore sessions. You are probably bringing back the one that caused the problem in the first place. And the startup is faster.

all it says which comes from Windows is
IE has stopped working, looking for a solution then I have to close it out

I would clean the computer. If you have too many sessions open, you could draining resources. Hence, one session will stop working.

It could be windows needs to be updated. Have you been receiving windows update messages?

I had this problem and windows updates fixed it.

maybe internet carrier try it at one of the rec centers and see if it happens

KayakerNC 08-30-2012 07:33 AM

You might try Fire Fox or Google Chrome.
How old is your computer, and what OS is it using? :posting:

bjoyce 08-30-2012 07:35 AM

I have been getting update automatically and it happens when I have nothing else going, tried a gov site this morning and it did the same thing.

Thanks for the suggestion on rec center, may try it and see what happens. If it continues do you know of anyone who works on computers within the villages and is not super expensive

IE-9 does NOT play well with Vista.
Actually a lot of things don't play well with Vista. It may be time for a new puter.

I have the same problem with my laptop using IE9 with windows 7. It seems the same sites usually shut it down, one being a credit card site. I installed firefox and use it for these sites with no problem. All of my programs update themselves etc, so I have no idea why this happens.....

:agree:

Vista home premium, (I have on my computer), does not play well with IE9.
I found the periodic window updates solved this problem.

I had to go back to IE8. I would try putting IE 8 on your computer as it works fine with Vista.

If you have 4 Gigs of memory and a fast processor, that should suffice for surfing the web. You can always upgrade to Windows 7 assuming your system meets the requirements if your so inclined.

I have firefox on my PC as well as it makes a good back-up browser.

Best of luck.
