I am wondering....Bonifay

I am wondering where The Villages developer came up with the name for Bonifay Country Club. Some of the country clubs have some relevance to the village they are located in.....some I don't understand....such as Bonifay and Cane Gardens.

Anybody else got interesting questions...or answers? :pepper2:

Bonifay is the name of a town in the panhandle of Florida. It appears that many of the names being used in districts 9 and 10 have something to do with Florida. For example, there is Sanibel Island and Captiva Island and Fernandina Beach, all in Florida. I'm assuming that is the connection.

Don't know about Cane Garden, but I'm sure it has a meaning. They don't pull anything out of a hat around here.

And three 9's at Bonifay (Fort Walton Beach, Destin and Pensacola) are Florida Panhandle cities west of Panama City.

thanks for the answers......I should have simply looked it up on Google....I know that this part of The Villages seems to be named with Florida towns and counties....Pinellas, Hillsborough, Sarasota. Also towns....Bradenton for one.

I just wish I lived on a street that has a shorter, easier to spell name than Evesborough Path......I have to spell it to EVERYONE at least twice! Had to do that in Orlando when I lived on Islamorada Dr!

I can't believe how often I have to spell out Boiling Springs Ct. for people. They all have a problem with "boiling".

You should try living on West Harbour Towne Circle, Muskegon, MI. The idiot pretentious street name must be spelled and stated as being two words, and NOBODY has ever heard of Muskegon, much less can spell it... And then we have a Z in our last name, which nobody understands over the phone. Sigh.

In my next life I want to come back as Pat Smith on Main St, New York.

Could this be an explanation for Cane Garden? Maybe it's a favorite vacation spot for the Morse family?????
Cane Garden - Beautiful Rental Property on the Isle of Vieques, Puerto Rico

Or perhaps here?

My guess would be the BVI. Cane Garden Bay is one of the most beautiful anchorages there for people chartering sailboats motoryachts and trawlers. With their connections to Torch
Lake and Lake Michigan, and their yacht and crew, it wouldn't surprise me if they've gone there.

Torch Lake and that northern part of Lake Michigan both have the most beautiful turquoise colored water, just like the Caribbean.

Try Mamaroneck, NY. People look at it and they stutter, usually comes out MAM-A-ROW-NECK with the accent on the ROW. And nobody can spell it.

Muskegon?
We had lunch at Legs Inn in Cross Village. MI and talked with bikers with colors stating MMG.
Asked them what it stood for "Muskegon Motorcycle Gang".

I used Metro North to commute to NYC for thirty years, and I remember one morning sitting behind two very talkative ladies at 7:00 am in the morning. One was telling the other that she had spent Saturday visiting relatives in "Ma-Ma-Row-Neck" I've lived in Westchester all of my life and it took a few moments for my half-awake brain to realize that she was referring to Mamaroneck. I had never heard the Town of Mamaroneck butchered so badly.
