Hope Springs: was it realistic?
 

There wasn't any sex for about 4 years. They slept in separate bedrooms etc. He didn't like touching his wife. Then at the end of the movie he was acting like a newlywed. They wanted to wrap things up with a positive ending. But it wasn't very realistic in my opinion.

The ending was a fantasy ending for all the older women who are not being touched by their husbands. But not very realistic, in my opinion.

Who knows what goes on behind closed doors?

Very few movies are realistic that I have seen. Once in a while one is very realistic but then it is a pain to watch. Doubt if many screening groups like endings that are not uplifting in some way.

There are some movies that are realistic but very good. The Godfather; The Godfather II; Juno; Spider-Man 2; Girl, Interrupted; The Changling; Platoon; Patton; The Hurt Locker; As Good As It Gets, etc.

I think in counseling he discovered that she desired him which I guess he didn't know. She was having dreams about him and he had no idea she was still interested in sex. Once he discovered that he was ready to go!

I think he knew that she desired him because in the very beginning of the movie, she entered his bedroom wearing a sexy negligee. It took him a while to figure out what she wanted but when he did he made a lame excuse to get out of it.

Everyone seemed to like your reply, perhaps because it is an undeniable truth.

Let's see how popular another undeniable truth is that gets to a deeper truth.
Statistically, we know that sexual activity, or frequency, declines with age. So, in a statistical sense, we do know what goes on behind the closed doors of older people.
