Exterior modifications

What is the approval process for room additions or exterior modifications to existing homes. Do pergolas require approval. Do pergolas have to be attached to the home or can they be free standing?

Once again, folks. If you have doubts, call the ARB and ask the question to the people who know the answer first hand instead of asking a forum who will come up with different answers. This is not rocket science.

Keep in mind, if your pergola is bigger than 200 sq. ft., you will also need a permit from Sumter County, if that is the county you are building in. If not Sumter, I would check with Marion or Lake County Bldg. Departments if they pertain.

Thanks Ooper, very helpful.

I just had plans drawn up with sealed drawing for $650, my pergola is over 200'.

He is adding other upgrades on the same permit at no extra cost.
