Lack of quality Medical Care in TV??
 

I was at an activity yesterday and a woman was there that is leaving TV due to the lack of quality medical care here. I know no more. But I did hear that in order to obtain competent treatment for her diagnosis she had to go back to the north to the mid atlantic states. Is state of the art physicians and care really not available here? DH and I just had our first encounter with the group of physicians from Belview that is bringing the"Marcus Welby" health care here. I am also from the mid atlantic states and was not impressed. I'm trying to keep an open mind. So, what do you think?

Have been here for over ten years. Had the same GP since the beginning. And have dealt with several specialist that I would highly recommend. I came from western New York and care here is the same as it was there. TV is no different than anywher else there are some good and not so good medical providers.
I guess you will have to describe what "state of the art physicians and care" means to you as it most likey means different things to different people.

I doubt that someone would just pick up and leave because they experienced one incompetent physician. She must have tried at least a few and couldn't find one suitable for her (perhaps complicated) medical condition. Those who don't have medical issues or simple medical issues will likely be satisfied with almost any doctor.

It's difficult to make a judgement without knowing her health status.

We have been here since last November and agree completely. Our GPs are the equal to the ones we went to 'up north' and I am even happier with the level of dental care we are receiving here.

I've been here 3 years, have had 2 surgeries in TV Hospital and can't complain one bit. My GP is great, my Cardio is great, Ortho that did both surgeries is Aces in my book so I can't complain. I need an appointment and get one. compared to Long Island I think TV is way ahead.

our insurance does not cover us unless it is a emergency and then the cost is an arm and your leg

Having gotten through a bout with MRSA at TV hospital and a quadruple by-pass at Leesburg, I would have to say that I have been completely satisified with the quality of medical care available in and around TV. We have had friends who felt that there were no good doctors here but in all honesty, they had generally gone through several different doctors (most of which other friends of ours raved about) I can only speculate that as in many other things it is a matter of "chemistry" between the parties involved. I guess some may have to move to get back to doctors who have learned how to handle them as a patient.

Regardless of what the "issue" is....one excuse is as good as another. We've been down here for a handful of years and so far our experiences with folks in the medical field have been positive. We were fortunate to find great providers apparently. I'm not sure that we'd leave TV because "quality" healthcare wasn't available.

I did go to one person when my insurance changed who I'd not recommend (though others highly recommended her) but as another poster said..."chemistry" alot of the time has something to do with whether a fit is good or not.

I found someone new. They are down here but you do need to do some inquireing, That is true every where,

:mmmm:I will tell you , my wife has to have 3 infusions a month and the type of medicine she needs the infusion center has to have a special liceanse to administer it, there are none in TV. The closest one is at Orlando...Hopefully one will come to TV soon, so DO YOUR HOMEWORK !

Not impressed with medical here
 

We have only been here since May, but are unimpressed with medical, in general. Luckily hubby and I are healthy but I do fear for our lives if we get really sick or need surgery. First impression is that medical care is very Laxidasical at best. No body is in a hurry to do anything. The staff are dressed in street clothes, jeans and t-shirts and sneakers and look like they just crawled out of bed. The "nurse" that took my history could have been from any farm town in the USA. The person who was mentoring the new ultrasound tech had on scraggly jeans, long gray scraggly hair and no makeup on. No effort was put into making herself look professional. I was taken back as where I came from professionals in the medical field wore scrubs or some sort of uniform. I was a bit hesitant to let anyone do anything to me. Our physician, however, was dressed very professionally and we liked him. I know that many of you will be all over me for this post but it was my first impression of the medicine down here. Oh and when I had my blood drawn, the girl had about one inch fake fingernails on. Not exactly very hygienic. Not only was she the receptionist but she was also the venipuncturist. It was a whole new world here and my first impressions were not so good. Let's hope we stay healthy and don't need much medical attention.

Where was this? Does not sound representative of all health care facilities.

I guess we have been very lucky. We love our doctor who is at lake Sumter, he and the staff are very professional, very knowledgeable and extremely patient oriented. Have not had an urgent issue but we are as happy with medical care here as in Atlanta. By the way hubby needs several specialists and our doctor got us in to good ones.

Came from Baltimore area. Had care through a Johns Hopkins Hospital (arguably #1 or #2 in the country)HMO. Was concerned about health care here.

Have found a very good GP, Have had surgery for several carcinoma , my wife has had catarac surgery and more. We have been very pleased with our care and the competence of the providers. We first did research using several sources including TOTV to find health care professionals.
