Landscaping Rocks
I'm new to The Villages and have just moved into a new house. I have an opportunity to get landscaping rocks at no cost to me from a resident who is adding a pool and getting rid of her landscaping and small rocks. The rocks are in her yard. Any suggestions on how to move them from her yard to mine?
Would I need to put down new plastic sheeting around the shrubs where the rocks would be placed? Or is the sheeting that I presume is below the pine needles sufficient? Would I be saving enough on the cost of the rocks for this to make sense? Any advice or insights are appreciated! |
If your pine needles were over new construction landscaping...it is very likely there is no black landscape fabric under the needles. I would just dig under the needles and see if you see any fabric...if you cannot, you have your answer!

no sheeting

but mulching with stone is not good for plants. :spoken: |
mulching with stone is the best option to avoid regular replacing/refreshing of aging mulch.
Rocks are also the better option to minimize bug infestations. Rocks are really not bad for plants if the rock placed around the plants properly....experienced rock providers and nurseries will tell you to be sure to keep the rocks away from the trunk of ANY plant....make a circle around the plant stock....we have had rock mulch here and at previous homes....never lost a plant due to rocks.....ditto for most that have it. Lava rocks are the last choice recommended as the small holes and pourous nature of the rock. btk |
